need some advice!

yo hear this..

i have a sound stream pca 1500d 1500rms mono amplifier running on a pair of audiopipe 700rms 12" (may change later for a pair of sound stream subs) these are in slot ported boxes tuned to 38hz 2.25 cuft per chamber..

i need an upgrade on my midrange..
i was thinking a sound stream tarantula 960.4 thats 960rms
and bridging two of these channels 480rms @ 4ohm to a pair of 18sound midbass drivers.. 8ohm 400rms (dj speakers) net 4ohm in parallel.

and the other 2 channels to a pair of 18sound 8" drivers (midrange) also 8ohm 250rms ea. and using a pair of selenium 125W horn drivers on these channels as well 8ohm which when connected in parallel would give a 4 ohm load to each of these channels.
no tweets here.. the horns will do that job!

all of this midrange are really dj type speakers but they outperform most if not all those car audio mids on the market!
especially when producing those nice lows that make your music sound full and defined. 18sound 8" over 6x9 any day..

well back to the point at hand.. what u think?? THINK

this system is geared towards quality sound reproduction and blowing away any competition that comes my way..
GIMME SOME CRITICISM!

Do you have links to info on these mids and horns? If these are Pro Audio designs, (DJ gear is Pro Audio) you should get pretty good results if the cone drivers are in proper enclosures.

Most Pro gear will outperform typical car gear in power handling and SQ if they are crossed over at the proper range for the horn drivers mentioned.

FYI: Horns are very efficient and it does not take much power to get them very loud. You may need to use attenuators along with the crossovers to balance them out. Using a well designed crossover for the horns and 8" MB drivers are critcal to the results.

yes these speakers are pro audio. and at the top of its class as well.. you wont believe the sound quality u get from these things every little instrument is defined..

ohh and did i mention they cost more than my subs.. lol

thats the downside as well tho.. very pricy and kinda large.. the 8" tho is pretty good for back dash mounts.. i highly recommend this! forget 6x9's.. there a waste of time and money.. thats wat has alot of guys systems only playing loud bass and highs with very little definition on the lower ends..

heres a link.. http://www.eighteensound.it/

oh and if u wana try this 8" option u'll need sumn to reproduce high's cuz these speakers absolutely dont! try the poweracoustik nx-6

It does not seem like you need much help from us in product selections.

May need a little help when dialing in your gear, but from what I see so far, the crossovers are your key issue between the horns and MB drivers. Since these are 8 ohm drivers, the crossover components used will need to be impedance matched to the drivers used. That's about the extent of it though.

soo what crossover u think i would need for these horns to cut out the lows they cannot reproduce? gee i dunno.. maybe 50uf
and resistors if needed 4 power handling..
or maybe sumn bout 22uf

Well, there are a number of factors to consider here. We have to match impedance, know the cutoff frequency your horns can handle well and maybe add A Zobel network attenuation circuit to balance out your horns to the MB drivers.

Will need some additional info from you on the specifics of your system. Once I have a good handle on that part, I may be able to find you some Pro gear crossovers that can handle the power. A simple Cap & Coil passive network may not be sufficient here. (Power handling, quality horn tweeter crossovers and maybe a protection circuit for your horn diaphrams. (Those are expensive to repair or replace)

More tomorrow as it's late, I just got in from fishing and it was a very hot night, a long day and I am one pooped puppy now.
