anyone hear about this car they buried in '57?? diggin it up on the 15th....i cant wait to see what it looks like. http://www.buriedcar.com/ Replies (14) ttocs on 05/29/2007 11:26:31 I did hear about that..... swez on 05/30/2007 08:56:58 If it was buried in a vault with constant air temps and humidity, the car should be in good shape. The car probably will not start as the battery will be dead and the 10 gallons of gas will probably not be much good after 50 years of sitting in the tank either. This car used leaded gas at the time, but should run on unleaded gas with a fuel additive or two. When thinking about inflation over the past 50 years, this car probably cost about $1,500.00 new in 1957. In todays' monies, this car will probably be worth close to $50,000, if in mint condition. It will not pass California emissions standards. LOL Wondering what size engine this car had and it's MPG ratings. (Probably a 2 ton car as they had very few plastic parts back then) Hum, I was on the planet when this car was buried alive. (Was about 16 month old at the time and just coming out of the cloth diaper stage) Wow... when I stop to think of all the things that I have witnessed in the past 51.4 years of life on earth, a lot has changed. Many things have not changed much too. 1.What's a Bobby pin? 2. The cigarettes will probably taste good (Fine aged tobacco?) 3. Women took tranquilizers then as now 4. We are in yet another war (The Cold War then, Iraq war now and Iran war is looming in the distance) 5. The Soviet Union is now defunked (But will come back into power with allies in the next 5-10 years) 6. Witnessed JFK/RFK/MLK assinations (We still don't know the whole truth about JFK's scenario) 7. Witnessed the first man on the moon walk (Via TV) 8. Saw Halley's comet (One cycle every 75-76 years) 9. We now have more computing power in our homes then it took NASA to get to the Moon and back) 10. What's a cell phone? (And why are there so many bad drivers on the road with these wierd devices permanently affixed to their skulls?) Yeah, there's a whole lot more I can recall too. But what is very interesting about all this, most of today's techno-gadgets came from Si-Fi stuff in the fantasy world of the 50's and 60's. Unfortunately, most were developed initially for/by the military and NASA. The only true constant over the past 50 years is WAR. Will the human race ever figure out a way to turn weapons into plowshares and figure out a way to get along with each other? With all the wealth and technology we now have at hand, we could eliminate hunger, poverty and WAR. All people groups could have access to fresh water, adequate food and an unlimited supply of energy. If all the world's people groups stopped wasting trillions of dollars on war machines each year, there would be no needs in the world we could not meet. But alas, this is not eutopia just yet. We still have "Armageddon" to deal with. Some experts say we are just a few years away from this "Mother of all Wars". From the way things are shaping up in the Middle East right now, we could be on the brink of WW III and IV. Has anyone ever pondered why the Mayan calendar stops at December 31, 2012? Some may see this as a "rant" and in some ways, perhaps it is. However, as one gets older, (Hopefully a bit wiser) and takes the time to reflect on things we have seen, heard or done, it's good to take a good look around and see where things have been, are now and where they might be heading. Frankly, I've seen too much bad news on the tube and newspapers the last 10 years. I don't watch the news anymore, hardly read the paper and if we really want to get a good read on what's going on in this country, try listening to the BBC. The Brits have a way of presenting global news in ways we would never hear on most US based news programs. Swez PS For those who enjoy the paranormal, alien visitors and other strange topics and curiosities, listen to "Coast to Coast AM" with Art Bell, George Noory and their guests. Very interesting tales and lots of heady thoughts are passed out each night. http://www.coasttocoastam.com/info/wheretolisten.html newB on 05/31/2007 02:46:53 you crazy liberals. JK JK swez. very insiteful good points on the car, i would have never thought about some of those. and IMO its human nature to fight and people will always come up with a reason to fight. but its just not that simple when WMD are involved. ;D -Drew swez on 05/31/2007 08:47:19 Liberal? LOL Hardly... actually somewhat Concervative w/ a Right Wing Christian bent and an open mind too. In other words, Listen to what others say, but watch what they do and then decide how real and authentic others really are. Thing is, there are many countries with WMD's on the planet already. And that is my point... we have the technology to blow the whole planet up a few times over already. Remember M.A.D.? (Mutually Assured Destruction?) Am all for a strong defense and a solid offense when needed too. However, we seem to be restrained enough not to use them since WW II and only 2 targets in Japan. That was a tough call. Truman pulled the trigger on Japan. I often wonder what Lincoln, Reagan, Churchill or FDR would have done in that scenario? More enigmas to ponder huh? Swez newB on 05/31/2007 12:20:28 ah i was just mess'n and i gotchu. i still stand by my "people will always fight" just like my little brothers MuHahahahaha -Drew swez on 05/31/2007 13:07:20 Yeah, I knew that and just wanted to clarify a given position. As you say, we will fight for our Brothers, Mothers, Dads and our real buddies to be sure. However, depending on how one looks at a given matter, what is this current war really about? Parts are pitched as a payback from 911. Parts are pitched as getting rid of Saddam, (BTW, the US Govt put him in power years ago) and how much of it has to do with oil? As I read other peoples' thoughts and ideas, we are next in line to have a BIG show-down with Iran, China and Russia. If that does in fact play out, who will be in thier support lines and who will we align with? (France, England, Germany, Italy, Austrailia, Israel, Saudi's, Canada, Mexico, India?) Some heavy points to ponder here huh? Dave newB on 05/31/2007 15:01:30 to many heavy points for my feeble 18yr old head. the only thing that i really know is the good our troops have on the ground. and thats not information from the media but sources that i know and am friends with serving tours in iraq. my dad jumped into northern iraq out of germany day 1 and when they all came back they were nothing but optimistic. i just hate how people assume that because its on fox or cnn that its true. when really its just whatever sells =( -Drew swez on 05/31/2007 18:40:21 Agreed... that's why I don't bother to watch or read much of their reporting. Yes, our boys have some serious woop-azz cans in their arsenal and we only hear the bad news. I get feeds from other news sources like Reuters and they seem to do a good job at balancing the scales on news they report. Also like the BBC as they have an interesting slant and are a bit cheeky about things we American's say and do that don't square with them. I like that as it too adds some balance. Anyway, since you are at a still tender age, no need to get all bogged down with heavy stuff like politics, world events and such things. Heck, I could have not given a rip at 18. That's what youth is for... enjoy life, learn the books and plan for some fun and a lot of hard work in the future. Life moves faster now. Just wait until you hit about 35 or so. Then world events and other issues become part of things we'd like to know more about. SMILE Swez newB on 05/31/2007 18:59:16 yeah. i try and look at it like that and have enjoy'd as much as possible of my youth. i have plenty of time to grow up. but for now i need to be in the moment and enjoy it. GRIN -Drew swez on 06/1/2007 06:52:41 Right on... will try to remember that you are still a pup and not get too heavy on other matters. At this age, life should be a good balance of school work, experimenting with new talents and having some fun in the process. Also, I hope you can hook up with 30 Hz in the near term. Jason has a very good head on his shoulders and we have chatted several times in the past. He would make an excellent role model and mentor for you as well. His knowledge and experience is vast in car audio and probably even more so about life and finding ones center. SMILE He's a good guy to watch your back side... LOL Swez jamesp on 06/1/2007 07:41:41 Dear Mr. Swez I will be 52 years old this coming Monday and was wondering if I should have found my center yet?
