Help with Enclosure

In my previous artical (WHAT WENT WRONG) I learned that my Sub box was probably the reason my voice coils fried. This time when I get my new subs I want to do it right. So Im asking help with this.

The new subs are Fusion NV-SW12
http://www.fusioncaraudio.com/products.php?region=3&action=view&product_id=299

Ive tried to research on enclosures for these subs and came up with nothing. I would like to try to use my old box but I dont no if it would be right for the new subs. heres the Dim.

The box is a RIT brand box.
DIM:W = 30.5in, D = 14in at top, 16.5in at bottom, H = 13
It has a divider to seperate the subs.
Made with 3/4in board
I added 3in x 7in port holes to each chamber.(i can plug them if needed)

If i cant use it what stlye or size should I use?

Ran your box numbers and it comes out to about 1.2 ft^3/chamber. That's not a bad fit for most 12" subs. If your ports are 3" diameter and 7" in length, in this box, the PTF is about 40 Hz.

If you did not use the Subsonic Filter, (SSF or some amps say Infrasonic filter) or the filter was set well below 40 Hz., that would explain the fried Bahns. (Not to be confused with burnt beans)

I ran some numbers and the Fusions subs should work out OK in the box you have now as A SEALED box design. (Way too small for ported though) The speaker resonance in this size enclosure would be about 42 Hz.

If you wanted to go ported, the internal airspace for each sub would need to be 2.6 ft^3/sub. Using a 3" diameter port, the port would need to be 10-3/4" long. Here, the PTF would be about 24 Hz. Not bad at all.

In a nutshell, the new Fusion subs should drop right in and this R/T box should give the subs adequate airspace for good, tight bass and good SPL numbers too.

Tech tip: When wiring these subs to your amp. Wire each sub for a net 2 ohms. (both coils in series) Then, wire both subs in parallel to the amp for a net 1 ohm load to this amp. This is the optimal ohmic value for this sub amp as it is 1 ohm rated.

Hope that helps,
Swez

PS Remove the ports and plug/cap them air tight. (4" dia caps and glue/screw them well or 3" dowels as plugs)

Thanks Swez, Do you have a link so I can see a pic of the "tech tip" you gave me?

For max bass in my case is it best to stick with the box I have or have a new one built. I have limited resourses on building a box so I would probably have to buy a new one. but if you think the one i have now will do the trick that would be great. (but plug the ports of course)

And I Know my amp has the SubSonic control on it. ( I never knew what it was for) Do you have any other references so I can learn more on this subject.

Here's a wiring diagram for your Fusion subs:

If it does not come out clearly the first time, hit refresh and that will usually clean it up enough to print a copy out for future references.

I'd stick with sealed and the box you have now for the short term and allow the subs to break in for a few days @ 50% power. After the subs break in, they will go lower in frequency and hit even harder.

To get max bass from these subs, ported is is the way to go. It might be good to talk with newB and see if you can have hime build and ship you a ported box later. (He does great work and very reasonable prices too)

Hey newB, can you fabricate a sub enclosure and just ship the panels and hardware so one can assemble the kit from a few boxes. Pre-drilling all screw holes, supply glue and sealer and a build sheet? That would be sweet, but shipping such heavy materials will be a bit more expensive, but probably cheaper then a fabricated box?

Why not exchange e-mails and discuss the details privately? SMILE

cool....ya never see anyone messin with fusion gear on here...keep us informed on the sound you make with these babies.....if you are moving near newb then maybe he can use his magic to bend you a box.....bend me one too while your at it....the quest continues..

Well newB, you are most welcome and deserve recognition for all the good work you have show us here. I believe in encouraging emerging talents and press themselves to bigger and better things.

Why? When I was a young lad, my Dad was harsh and critical about my own adventures into uncharted areas. That does not motivate folks to experiment and try new things. Now that I am much older (51) and a Dad as well, it's my desire to stretch our readers, (Mostly 16 - 25 year olds) and allow them opportunities to experiment, take a few well calculated risks, experience minor setbacks, THINK and devise a better plan on how to do it well the next time around.

In the circles I travel in, we call it "Going the extra mile" for others to benefit. That's why you get more than you pay for when dealing with Old Man Swez. USFLAG
