I found those stealthy terminals and wish a had a whole car full!
they just look so clean!
the truck box is 1.1cuft tuned to 35hz
I KNOW I KNOW
crazy port noise.
but im prepared to swap the 2inch ports for 3s in that situation.
i just want to get the most out of the space i had.
subs are 12inch ARC audio KAR subs.
the amp pushing them, and interiors, is a Kicker 550.3
enjoy

Hand me the super deluxe shoe horn... this is one tight fitting sub box. LOL Am tellin' ya bro, you could become a bonified carpenter.

What subs were used in this install? They must have been pretty shallow noting the depth of the box and how high up the subs are mounted? Chevy S-10?

its a custom 1991 Chevy 1500 std cab
its a show truck so he wanted something clean.
the amp is under the pasanger seat and its flush all over. after carpet it will look even better.

not sure how high up they are- to be 100% honest
(because you guys are family)
i cheated. PROUD
he had stocky boxes .5cu sealed. i took the HxD dementions, expanded it to 60inches accross and calculated the 2inch abs port to 35 hz. single 2inch ports for each chamber and getting BARELY any noise. you have to listen a good 3inches from the port to hear it. GRIN
as far as top to bottom- the sub is dead center and its an ARC Audio Kar series 12. the amp is a kicker 550.3

No discernable port noise is a good thing. Can see why you did it this way and it's about the only way to do it in an MDF only box. If your client complains about port noise later, can you still modify and drop in 3" diameter ports later?

I just did a little research on ARC Audio and found them to be one top notch company from bow to stearn. If any wish to learn a little more about this 31 year old company, here's a link that takes one on a guided tour of their main Mfg'ing facility in Plymouth, MN. It's an interesting read and some pics thrown in at no extra charge. (These are hand-made amps and signal processors, based on tube technologies from the 1930's, but very up to date Vacuum Tubes are tested, sorted and can be matched to older amps that come in for repairs or upgrades) How cool is that for super service?

Not sure how many will read this article, but for serious audiophiles with lots of cash to spend, ARC will stack up to Mac's veneralble Tube amps in most any respects.

For the older guys in this crowd, remember the Magnapan MG 1 slim line speaker panels? (Circa late 1970's) This was cutting edge Hi-Fi back in that day. No, they were not bass monsters then. But the clarity and chrispness of that original series, (Magnaplanar... I think it was called) is a legend to this day. ARC Audio helped get them started too.

Yep, that's what they are called. Have a look if you like. These puppies are large and very thin in profile. It seems to me, that they sold for over $5,000.00 a pair when new. (Bi-ampable too)

So much for the history lesson... enjoy the read if you wish.

i will have to relay that wonderful bit of information to him.

yes i can still mod the 3inch ports if i need to.
but i highly doubt that.
the noise is so faint it just isnt worth it.

he did have the pictures in my house moving.
;D
such a clean install

my bro has a box similar to that for his 88 single cab housing 3 kicker comp vr's.......its pretty loud.....i plan on something similar but ported for a single 15 in my 89....unfortunatley mine will be deeper due to the depth of the sub.....

louisypher on 05/28/2007 01:40:02
nice ,yup they work, i will have to post some pics myself, of the box i built for a toy t-100. what amp are you running?can you sit like a normal person in yours? mine im a hair crowded but it does go boom.
