i just bought two 12" JBL GTO1202D subs, but the are only wired to a 400 watt kenwood amp KAC-6202, i know this is not nearly enough power to get these things bumping the way they should be but i dont want to blow them.. anyone know a good amp to buy that will run both safely and not cost me an arm and a leg Replies (2) swez on 05/23/2007 04:47:13 This amp, (KAC-6202) would be fine for full range speakers and worth keeping on hand. For the subs mentioned, if you wish to use other Kenwood amps, consider the KAC-8152D. This is a Class D amp, very efficient and delivers a solid 500 RMS @ 2 ohms. (Good price at Crutch after rebate) The Kenwood Excelon KAC-X10D is also a nice fit for a few more bucks. This amp has a few more features and a bit more power too. Some careful shopping should shave the price down as well: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-QRIFbmOU3CP/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=120&I=113KACX10D http://www.crutchfield.com/S-QRIFbmOU3CP/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=120&I=113KAC8152 Swez PS Kenwood amps are pretty reliable products when used as designed. However, they tend to hedge a little on the RMS power ratings. (Seems a little overrated on power specs, unless these amps are notably over 88% efficient) It is possible, but the only real way to test it out and measure output voltage #'s @ 2 ohm loads. A true 600 Wrms will deliver a clean 34.6 VAC @ 2 ohms with a 50-60 Hz., test tone.
