hello guys well i have a friend (they all become friends once you get going about car audio and they find some one that kinda knows what they are talking about ) any way he has 3 12" subs in 3 diferent boxes one entry level sony one jensen in sealed and a rockford fosgate in a ported. to power these he has one of those older rockford fosgate power 500.2. this is all in a jeep cheroke an older id say maybe 95.

well i went and herd his system and it sounded nice but it left a little to be desired. well he asked me what would be a better setup in his own words "i just want it to pound harder"

now one of my sujested upgrades is to go with an alpine 15 type R and build a ported box. for now he would like to stay with the same amp but if necessary replace with a nice classD later because of this i was thinking of using the 4ohm dvc.

what do you all think ? and of coarse ill need some help from you all to build this box but thats a bit later.

a single alpine SWR 15" sub can definitely blow all those 3 subs put together, if the enclosure is built to specs and the sub is matched with a solid amp...

This is one strong sub amp... 1000 Wrms when bridged MON @ 4 ohms. This amp is also fused at 100 A's. Keep that in mind.

Here is the .pdf manual for it: (Page 28 is specs)

How much cash does this guy wish to invest in a solid SPL sub? One I would seriously consider here, Orion H2 15.2:

With some careful shopping, am sure the price can come down below $275.00. Yes, the sub is rated for 2000 Wrms, but it is also very efficient as well. So it will bang hard at 1000 Wrms. This is a 2+2 DVC sub. A very good match for his present amp now and if he goes to a larger Class D amp later, make sure it's 1 ohm stable.

well i guess i should have made it clearer the amp is around the 1999 model 500a2 which is 125x2@4ohms 250x2@2ohms and 500x1@4ohms

i dont think this guy i going to be trying for any competitons or nothing he just wants some thing to cruse with my assumed priorities from talking to him is
#1 a quality product that will last a lond time and handle some decent power
#2 a setup that "bumps"

for rite now we are looking at around a 400 to 500 total budjet
ps i took my meter out today and his current setup maxed out at 121.4 DBs and at that you could hear a lot of distortion

Whoa, that's a pretty low number on SPL for this size amp. OK, the Alpine 1222D is a good option for this system. I'll look for a few more too:

http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=2530 ($140 +S/H)

http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=2928 ($210.00 +S/H)

http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=3148 ($170.00 +S/H)

http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=1994 ($210.00 +S/H)

These will handle the power, delivers very good SQ/SPL and will match this amp well when bridged MONO. Don't be put off by using a single 12 here. Simplicity, a well designed enclosure and a solid 500 Wrms amp can do a nice job here.

What is the vehicle is he working with now?

he is driving a 93 jeep cheroke

Yes, a single 15" 2+2 DVC should mate very well to this amp when the amp is bridged and the sub is wired at 4 ohms, (Both coils in series) and use a ported box for better lows.

This is a mid-size SUV. It will probably sound best if the woofer is facing the rear tail gate and mounted just behind the rear seat backs.

When the amp/sub is optimized for max efficiency and gain settings, he should get well into the mid 130's dB or a tad higher.
