Port Q

i have to rebuild that black box because the customer said the higher tune was bad.
so he is considering aero instead of slot vent.
1 4inch pvc in a 2.5cuft box comes out to 9.57inches long. (winisd)
would a single port of that size create to much port noise???
much appreciated

is this the same box about which we discussed in this post..??

http://www.clubknowledge.com/Car_Audio_FAQ/?g5127_1387

also... be it slot or square or cylindrical... if the port tuning or box calculations are wrong it aint gonna make a difference wether you use the slot or cylindrical port.

a single 4 " in a 2.5 cuft box would not create too much port noise..

once again.. what is the size of that box...??

not in cu.ft... what are the external dimensions of the box.. thickness of MDF used... are there any bracings.. if yes then what are its dimensions..??

let me repeat once more..

"""" building an enclosure without precise specs of the driver, is a shot in the dark...."""""

Try and see if you can get the specs of the driver...

let the box lie as it is... dont mess around with it till we conclude a precise plan.

it may be possible to alter its performance without major changes...

Victor...

To convert a slot port into a aeroport you need to maintain the Cross Sectional area of the vent...the length can remain same...

if its the same box then i guess u have used 1.5" x 15.5" slot port

to convert this into a circular port...

you would need a port of diameter 5.44" ....

getting this kinda pipe is a tuf call..

have you finalised all the joints and fixed them permanently or is there scope to disassemble the box without hurting it a lot..??

Depending on the size of the woofer, and the power going to the woofer a single 4" port can cause port noise. What kind of subs and power are we looking at here?

What tuning freq does he want? What was the old one tuned to?

Edit:
If were talking about the same box for the Toxic Street subs in the topic you posted last time, then 32hz is low enough. Most music doesn't go below 30-40hz except for some bass heavy music and even then you still get down to 20hz, just not as loud as you would if you tuned there depending on the Xover slope of your SubSonicFilter.

I'm not familiar with the toxic subs. What RMS are they? How many ^ft to they require?

This info is only valid if were talking about the same setup in your previous post per victors find.

ok so i need to clarify some things.
throw both previous boxes out the window.
lol
they are built solid and there really isnt anything wrong with them.
the basic question is how much port noise would come from a 2.25cuft box with a single rockford T2.
should i consider a single 4inch port or just skip to looking at a 6inch?

the reason im asking is because many people have said that a single 4inch port would create to much noise.

but ive built my box 2cuft per chamber with single 4inch ports and dont have any noise- AND on a prevoius box 1.8cuft for 12s vented to 32hz with two 2inch ports and still didnt have a shred of port noise.

the knowledge of many smart people online are contradicting my personal experience and im confused.

SO-
in a situation like this, i just ask CK.
