Pinch on 05/17/2007 23:36:38 Nice lookin box! er....subwoofer enclosure... Are you going to paint it? Wrap it? Plant grass in it and make it a chia-box? Peace, Pinch swez on 05/18/2007 06:30:35 Very nice box design and construction newB. Are you selling them for a profit now? A box of this complexity, (No sub) should bring about $175 - 200.00. On the larger units shown before, maybe closer to $250.00. Nice work bro! CLAP Swez PS Chia-box... I like that idea... going green huh? newB on 05/18/2007 11:59:54 thank you for the compiment swez. i remember this was the first forum i ever signed up with when i wanted the neon audio prefab setup for 200$ man how things have changed! suprisingly this box is going out shipped for 80$ its low because the customer is in San Diego and pretty much said "this is how much i have can you do anything for me?" and at this point its more for the experience than the money but i will hopefully start bringing in a little more profit soon. im changing woodshops end of next week so we'll see how that goes. =P BTW i just painted it metalic black at his request- and added some CLEAN terminals. i dont have pix of them yet but they look awesome so i'll make sure i get pix up as soon as i can of the terminals. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e216/saxwonder05/audio/A.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e216/saxwonder05/audio/B.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e216/saxwonder05/audio/C.jpg -Drew 30Hertz on 05/18/2007 16:45:18 Looks good bro. We all start out as newbs and once we learn, we become more experienced. I've been doing this for about 4-5 years now and I can tell you, there is always something new to learn and try. It can never get old if you stay motivated =). Keep up the good work. -30 newB on 05/18/2007 20:13:04 local shop just inspected a box and was very impressed they said it would sell for between 2 and 3 hundred dollars -Drew swez on 05/19/2007 07:31:34 See what I mean... this is a lot of good design and carpentry work that goes into each box you have shown so far. Yes, the materials are modest, but the labor is intense unless one can crank out dozens of panels at one time and fabricate them as customers order what they want. After making a good number of boxes in days gone by, it's a great learning experience and a fun hobby. But when doing onezy-twozies for a living, the price has to reflect a reaonable profit for labor. If you can find a high end audio shop that is willing to buy say 4-6 custom boxes at a crack at say $200.00 a pop, now it's worth while and a good return for your time and talents. If you loaded the box with a quality sub too, add 25-30% over the cost of the woofer and really make some money. (If the local market will support it) Swez newB on 05/19/2007 22:25:22 i think as i bring out these nice boxes i'll just take them to the shop 1 by 1 and hopefully create a very good impression (i am about to attempt a Dual Chamber Tri-Tune box that will hopefully blow their mind) then maybe hook a part time building job in the shop. we'll see. and of course i'll keep you posted -Drew newB on 05/20/2007 03:40:23 my box was built wrong it was my noob mistake totally killed my day. =( -Drew jamesp on 05/20/2007 10:01:45 Did the customer furnish all the specs for the sub? Just make sure you are not being taken advantage of and dont ship anything without the money in your hand. I hate to say that as the Harley Tech Site I hang at with over 15,000 members has a swap meet sect and people have shipped my purchases to me before ever receiving payment. It happens all the time but once in a great while a bad apple messes everything up. If the customer told you the size to build the box, then told you he only had 80 dollars to pay for it, make sure it really is your fault before you eat it...It looks good but probably will not taste good...Good luck. newB on 05/20/2007 23:21:14 it was my fault i grabbed a 9inch piece instead of a 17inch piece lol which raised the tuning frequency from 32 to 37-38 and he wants it rebulit- it hasnt shipped yet. oh btw. THIS BOX IS OFFICIALLY FOR SALE!!!! lol -Drew jamesp on 05/21/2007 08:27:09 newB, what do you mean by "i grabbed a 9inch piece instead of a 17inch piece lol" I hate to see you get stuck with this nice looking box. What is the internal volume of this box. If I can use it I might buy it from you. Email me if you want to . my addy is po_po1atmsn.com of course you need to replace the at with the @. Anyone know how this box would work out with an Alpine 12" type R? What are the outside dimentions? Thanks swez on 05/21/2007 09:04:57 Hey, port tuned at slightly below 40 Hz is not a bad box if the internal airspace is in range. It really depends on the sub specs too. Some subs do very well in a wide range of ported boxes. It's probably still useable to the right guy. Yes, get the dimensions of the box and other specs as needed and post it here. If someone can use it, do your deals via private e-mails. Swez newB on 05/21/2007 18:43:12 i'll give my lil response when i get back from work its tuned 37-38hz nice daily box, he is just adimate for a box 32-33hz -Drew newB on 05/22/2007 01:43:17 ok- 33.5 wide 15 deep 15 high 2.75 inch wide port port 24inches long interal volume 2.65 cuft tuned to 37-38hz (depending in volume of woofer) the only reason i had it going for 80 is because thats what he had, and i decided i would work for that. i think 100+shipping would be fine for this beastly box. anyone interested just email me saxophonewonder2002@yahoo.com -Drew (email sent jamesp) Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
