I installed a JVC KD-G820 into my car last night, and when I had finished, I turned on the car to test it. First bad sign was the deck did not power on - then I found out that the vanity lights, trunk lights, interior lights, and everything else on the same circuit was out as well. I checked the fuses, and the really bad news, the fuse for these seems to be fine. The only explanation that I can think of is the wiring got fried, but I wanted to know if anyone can think of another possible explanation (hopefully a cheaper and easier one to fix). I am no expert at wiring, but I have a basic knowledge of it, and I don't understand how the wiring would have fried, as I was sure to ground it first, using the same grounding wire and grounding point as the unit I had just taken out of my car. The only wire that I did not hook up was the illumination wire, and I wrapped that one in lots of electrical tape to guarantee the end of it didn't cause a short. Anyone have any other ideas? And if not, does anyone know about how much it would cost to get my car rewired? I would also look for a radio fuse and check the fuse on the back of the radio itself. Try grounding the radio to a bare metal spot instead of using the factory harness. jamesp on 05/4/2007 20:03:07 Sounds like you need to revisit the illumination wire. If the fuse isnt blown and you already had an aftermarket unit in the car that somehow you just have an open circuit with the wire (illum) that you taped off not completing the circuit. If you are lucky, thats what it might be. ttocs on 05/5/2007 09:19:33 I agree with them that you have a blown fuse. When I suspect a fuse is blown I do not even check the manual to try and see which one it is. ANYTIME a fuse is suspected to be blown you MUST check EVERY fuse in the car both under the dash as well as the ones under the hood by the battery. YES EVERY FUSE............ Neb2489 on 05/5/2007 14:20:53 thanks all for the replies I checked all the fuses, and all of them looked fine, but I went to my friends shop to get them tested, and one of them was blown - it just wasn't enough to be very visible swez on 05/5/2007 20:07:17 Some fuses can be very confusing to the eye, depending on where they open up. They may look good, but blown just the same. Too much current load on that circuit will blow a fuse in short order. Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
