Can a 1000wrms amp be limited to 600wrms using the gain setting?

Yes.
Download this excel document, and it has detailed instructions on how to do this. There is even a 60Hz test tone you can burn to use while you tune the amp.
http://www.datafilehost.com/download.php?file=6d26c621

click on the tab at the bottom that says gain controll adjustment
Use 600 watts as your reference, and match it up with the ohms column and it will tell you the voltage you should get while playing the 60Hz test tone.

I like these spreadsheets.
I still want to make up a 2 Ohm and maybe a 4 Ohm load equivalent on a pair of speaker wires to set the gains without vibrating my eyeballs out w/ the test tones at high volume

Have you contacted my old friends at Ohmite Mfg.? I believe I had sent you contact info and part numbers for their high power wire wound resistor products.

I do do have a pair of 100 watt, 10 ohm resistors on hand and would gladly send them to you for testing purposes. The pair in parallel will give you 5 ohms and calibration should be pretty close at that load. If using a very high current amp, just use a fan to keep them cool while testing.

A simple calculation with Ohm's Law will help you set the gains properly in total peace and quiet. If you need them, just ask and I'll mail them out to you. Can I get them back when you are done?

Swez, I did contact them and was emailed back and informed that they were out of the item that I requested .He asked if there was anything else he could help me with. The guy that replied was very friendly but I didnt know what else would work.

Thanks for your offer but I wouldnt want to tear up yoursGRIN. If you ever run across anything that will work, if you would pick me up a set I would like to buy them. Again, thanks for the kind offer.
