Yesterday my son put a dime in the teeny slot in the in-dash cd player. It definitely does not eject or accept cds right now...Is there any way I can get in there to get the dime out myself? Thank you!!!! Replies (13) swez on 05/2/2007 13:57:09 Hum, has this lad been exposed to pay-per-view TV in an airport or an old time diner with a table top jukebox? This one will be very difficult and a delicate operation. I would try a wooden tongue depresser or popsicle stick with 2 sided sticky tape. (The very thin tape might work) This "may work" w/ lots of patience, luck and pure determination. Go very delicately into the slot and probe for the coin. Can you see the coins' location with a flashlight? If yes, that would make it easier to extract. After extraction, run a CD cleaner or a "Q-tip swab with rubbing alcohol on it, over the reading lense to clean any tape adhesive off the reading lense. The only other option I can think of that would be better, would be to remove the player from the dash, open it up and remove the coin this way. NOTE: Do not use metal probing tools like tweezers, needle-nose pliers and the like. That could damage the player for good. Kids do and say the darndest things huh? Swez (A Dad too) trunkisloud on 05/2/2007 20:19:11 man i had a problem like that once...but it was one of those mini cd's...my kid thought since it played in the computer that it would work in the car.....boy was he wrong....had to pop the top on the deck to get it out. eharlan on 05/2/2007 20:56:00 thanks for everyone's advice so far - i'll be getting on this tomorrow it looks like :) ttocs on 05/3/2007 09:17:30 I had a customer come in once saying his cd player was acting funny for no reason so we checked it out and it was a little strange. We pulled the deck and my manager was sitting in the pass seat when I actually removed the last screw holding the deck in place and we heard the player "jingle" when it moved. It was a regular rattle with as much money as their kid had put in it but at that moment the mother was letting him entertain himself with the water cooler in the waiting room.......... I don't know if I would recommend probing around with tools. I am willing to bet that would cause more damage and make it a little strant to explain to your installer how those items got into your deck. If you pull the deck and take off the top more then likely you can then easily fish them out. If this is not something you feel comfortable doing then bit the bullit and go have somebody do it. jamesp on 05/3/2007 11:05:03 I need to remove a cleaning disc from my daughters stock Ford Escape 6 disc in dash unit? Can you normally easily remove the top of the deck. Looking at my Ford stock unit as I recall it looked to be a pita to take it apart> swez on 05/4/2007 07:19:16 Do you have a picture of the CD changer and its location? Most likely, it will need to be removed and the changer covers may need to be pulled apart to get that disc out. Swez jamesp on 05/4/2007 09:31:54 I havent done it yet but I can easily remove the deck, It looks like it comes out almost as easily as the one in my truck. It was something I meant to do a while back but I told my daughter to clean up her ride first. She keeps more shtuff crammmed into her car than I can deal with. Ill try to pull it out this weekend and see if I can tell how to take it apart. ttocs on 05/4/2007 09:34:12 daughter huh? Just kidding...... I'll take your word for it that she keeps too much crammed into it as she does happen to have more crammed into her cd player then most people I know..... cplkittle on 05/4/2007 13:40:27 A factory indash is a PAIN IN THE REAR to work on when you are talking about trying to remove a CD. They are very delicate and there are alot of fragile plastic parts inside. You will have to remove the top casing, the CD player assembly, and sometimes a board or two before the trays can be accessed. If the front can be removed safely, this is the easiest way. I have taken apart a few dozen in the last few years, and after each one I swore I'd never do it again. Just a note on how fragile they are, there is usually a big factory sticker on top of the unit that says "Scrap if dropped". jamesp on 05/4/2007 20:38:08 I popped the HU out. I need to find my micro Torx set and see what happens nextGRIN..It looks like the front might come off. This unit has a sticker on it and other than Ford it says Altec Electronics It is a 1.5 DIN unit. cplkittle on 05/5/2007 03:56:42 keep a close eye on the front panel.. some use ribbons, some are soldered directly to a board that attaches perpendicular and then screws in from the side. Don't try to coax the front off unless you are 100% all attachments are disconnected. jamesp on 05/5/2007 11:19:39 Thanks for the advice. This Escape has a cavernous amount of space in the dash. You could hide an aftermarket amp in there if you had an opening to get it in. I wish my truck had a litte of this extra room. I have the hole in it packed like a can of sardines. jamesp on 05/5/2007 14:01:54 I pulled the HU out, the front came of easily and seperates completly from the unit and took the cleaning disc out. When I plug the unit back up the display says " initializing" and you hear the whirring sound but no visible movement of any of the gears and cogs and mechanisims....I cant see any obvious binding but there is a lot that has to go in there for this thing to work. Doesnt look too good for the kid..but the upside is..It will not take but a few minutes to install an aftermarket unit if necessary. I found a website that offers a rebuild of these things but I can buy an Alpine 9885 for a few dollars more than the cost of thier service.. I took a few pics of the unit. http://s130.photobucket.com/albums/p265/jamesp_1/HU/ Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
