I usually sound deaden the door whenever I'm installing speakers. I've used Peel N' Seal from Lowes (roof flashing material that has tar on one side, and aluminum on the other) and Brown Bread in the past. You can also pick up some cheap carpet and cover the inside of the door shell to deaden the door some too.

I've seen others get foam baffles that the speaker sits in and mounts to the door to give it a little enclosure and keep it from the weather.

It shouldnt really be that much of a problem if you dont have it deadened, but it does help

Agreed... That peel & seal works pretty well as long as the door metal is cleaned well with denatured alcohol. Once cleaned, the metal will tack out nice and most adhesives will stay put.

The foam baffles are a good option as well. Some guys put a few small holes on the underside of them to allow more airflow and bass output too. A pair of 1" holes is often sufficient.

I am not too convinced about using those baffles dave.. in theory they should be doing the work they are intended to, but the reviews of people who have installed are not too great..90% of the reviews i read about those baffles of different sizes state one thing in common..

if you are looking to just protect your speakers they are great, but if you have sound quality issue they are useless..

instead i would suggest , damping the sheet metal used in the doors, using some damping mats or paints..

hope this helps...

Victor, read the comments and as mentioned before, if one uses them and puts an air port or two in the bottom of the cup, they work very well and keep water off the speakers too.

One of our CK'ers used them and noted poor MB response. So, he cut a pair of 1" diameter holes in the bottom of the cup and Viola, speakers sounded much better with that minor modification. (Ogetnom)
