I have a rat problem. I can't poison them because I have dogs that will eat them if they die, and I don't want to kill my dogs. I have tried all kinds of traps, but they are mostly under the house and getting into the walls. They do eat dog food late at night unless I bring it in, so I was thinking of hooking up a 2farad capacitor to a battery and rigging up a bowl connected to a metal plate (the plate will be insulated from the bowl) and hooking up the capacitor to the plate and the bowl. I may have to rub a little vaseline on the metal surfaces to increase conductivity, but do you think that a capacitor and a battery would electrocute these little bugers? Victor on 04/26/2007 04:03:47 may be not kill em.. but definitely give them a shock of their life....hehehe.. .. technical minds at work always come up with something interesting.. i would like to place some live wires connected to the battery and cap into the **** pot when friends come home to party... those drunkards need to pee too frequently.....GRIN swez on 04/26/2007 09:51:18 If you want to kill or remove something, cut off its food supplies. A shock of a few joules in value may not kill the buggers, but it may give them a lesson they may not wish to re-pee-t. You have an interesting idea though... feeding them from a metal bowl that is charged Pos and a conductive mat as Negative might be interesting. Could be AC or DC current too. A damp mat will also conduct well when the rats' feet are on the mat and when he touches the bowl... zappp. Just have a way to turn off the power source so the dogs don't get zapped too. Try some peanut butter on the side of the bowl. Most animal love peanut butter. Swez ShootuhMcBustaCap on 04/26/2007 10:03:57 You have guns right??????? Just kidding. We had a rodent problem at an old place my family lived at, and I would assume that the people that came in after us did too. Fortunaltly for human life, that dump was bulldozed. That is one creative as hell idear there though. I would try it just for kicks and giggles if the rodent problem was bad enough. Finally, a capacitor would be usefull for something huh?? jamesp on 04/26/2007 11:26:25 Call your vet and see if they will verify this. I sold this stuff and the box had info to confirm.. Rat poision with Wafarin as the active ingredient (wafarin is Cumudin(sp?) which is used in humans as blood thinner) will take care of the problem. As I recall, the label stated that pets could not consume enough of the poision from eating rats killed with this stuff to hurt them. It dehydrates the rodents and bleeds them out so ususlly not much dead rat odor to deal with.Usually the rats leave and head for thier water source after ingesting a lethal dose...Makes even Mighty Mouse thirsty... Dogs do not not typically consume carrion...they would rather roll in it then come rub all over you to show you thier new perfume. You can get this at any feed store and I keep it in my garage where my pet foods are stored in galvanized metal trash cans. The rats come to visit and walk away dead...they just dont know it... I set the dogfood bowl on the edge of the porch where it was comfortable to prop on the couch backwards and sit really still aiming out the window. They are most active between 1 & 2 am. It was alot of fun, but I was cramped the next morning from kneeling on the couch holding the rifle still for 45 minutes. I need a new interesting and more sadistic method. cplkittle on 04/26/2007 22:48:15 I am halfway through the construction of my new contraption. I found an old busted up bug zapper, and I have it taken apart. I just need to rig up a bowl and test it to see if the screens energize with the light removed. I will put it on the corner of the porch in a wooden box so the dogs can't get to it. I will have to draw it out and take some pictures for my patent application. louisypher on 04/27/2007 01:06:07 if you have neighbors that live closely, Gammo makes a pellet rifle that pops 1100 fps. thats enough to take em out and make you quite a marksman...an if you have freinds that arent too close you can convince em they are eating quail....anyone wanna come over for dinner? ShootuhMcBustaCap on 04/27/2007 10:06:58 Nasty Louis!! I aint never grubbin at yo crib!! LOL!!! That sounds like a great Idea too kit, but I like the capacitor idea better. Also one word......Blowtorch!! sneak up and ninja them with fire. Also the ghetto flamethrower, involving your wife's aerosol hair spray and a Bic Lighter. Put thel old household items to a creative use, and cover the sadistic part as well Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
