should i put one in my trunk i have two 1200 rms subs and a 2300 rms amp ? Replies (6) trunkisloud on 04/26/2007 00:21:25 couldnt hurt...unless you have a weak electrical system...dont need any more drain on that than what is necessary. cplkittle on 04/26/2007 01:14:33 buy 12volt computer fans, you can get them for $5.00 on ebay. If you buy a name brand car audio fan, the price jumps up to $12-$15. You will need to connect it to a relay triggered by the remote wire. check this one out: http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Computer-PC-Case-Blue-Neon-LED-Fans-Cooler-Fan-12V_W0QQitemZ160110953129QQihZ006QQcategoryZ51064QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem ShootuhMcBustaCap on 04/26/2007 10:25:46 Those colling fans are waaayy cool. Love the blue led's. I think I will have to get some even though I don't need them. I love blue!!!!! Man, 2300 RMS in a 94 maxima? That has to hurt the charging system. MrBrownstone on 04/27/2007 18:51:10 What would you use the cooling fan for? Do you have a Class A/?B amplifier? With respect to 'damaging your charging system'; ..it depends upon the amp. A lot of amps are rated at 2300watts, but that may be only when the amplifier is struck by lightning. It also depends upon use. Unless you are using your system at 100% capacity all the time, it won't really have a huge impact on your electrical system. Contrary to strange belief, your electrical system isn't a human and really doesn't have feelings. Using your system at full output will make the alternator wear out a little faster, but I had a ridiculous systems and none of the alternators went down. We're talking cars like: 89 Toyota Corolla 89 Olds Cutlass 95 Chev Cavalier 85 Chev Celebrity all of those had systems in excess of a kilowatt for over 80,000 miles each...the miles like those over 100k..and I didn't see any problems with the alternators. Also, their alternators were puny.. Wiring will assist the flow of current, and that's the most critical component. Most ALL cars from most all cars sold in the US are capable of handling 1kW systems without any issues..long or short term. When you get to 2kW...assuming you are using your system at capacity for LONG periods of time at high volumes, you may begin to shorten the life of the alternator. Fortunately, alternators are cheap anyway. All 3 Japanese cars I owned in the past were killed with around 400RMS or less. And thats rated power as well. Each one bit the dust within under a month too, and left me stranded in a screwed up place, and I was carless for a month after that affording a "cheap" alternator, and wrenching it myself with no clue of what the hell I was doing. When It comes to losing your wheels for a month, you can't put a price on how "cheap" that Alt was..... Car examples: 94 Nissan Sentra 87 Toyota Cressida 84 (I think) Nissan Sentra Who's to say these werent some old, burnt out Alts anyway. Polar opposite of this: My 84 Olds Delta 88 ran about 50 miles home with a broken alternator belt, and still had enough juice to statr the car after the repair. I was bumping my little stystem the whole time. Also, my Buick Century, (Same body design as a 89 Cutlass), has had no problem except a battery killed by negligence. I need automatic dome lights bad... Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
