Alrighty, some of you follow my threads on my build progress and I''ve got some great news! Its finished! I just have to install it all tomorrow so here are some pictures before I install it all! Glassed Enclosures and Pods. The sub is the CDT SQ-12, Components are the Diamond Audio D6 6.5s, Amplifiers are an Orion 2500d (2500watts RMS @1 ohm, 1000 @ 4ohms) and a Tru Technology T4.100 (AWESOME amplifier, picked it up for $380 used for from a buddy of mine back east, they retail for over $1000) http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y287/SubSonicVibez/SetupFinishedb4install.jpg Kick panels you've seen b4 but ill post it anyway http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y287/SubSonicVibez/FinishedKick.jpg I'll post pics tomorrow of it all installed 30 Replies (10) trunkisloud on 04/25/2007 23:24:06 some pretty nice glasswork....can i have it? cplkittle on 04/26/2007 01:24:03 Looks real nice. I love the sound of the metal cone midbass drivers. I honestly think I would trade my HEX comps for some D6 if I had a chance. at least one pair anyway. ShootuhMcBustaCap on 04/26/2007 10:08:58 30, that is the baddest looking glass I have ever seen. Seroiusly, that is just beautiful. 30Hertz on 04/27/2007 22:26:19 Alright, its finally installed and I must say, it sounds beautiful. SPL is lacking but its not what I was going for in this install. Very well rounded bass, hits hard when its needs to and hits every note on key with accuracy. The mids really bring out everything and I have plenty of power available if I want to step it up a notch. I havent finished the amprack yet but i'll get there, I also need to cover the floor with vinyl but that wont take to long. I threw the rest of it in today because ive got another long trip to Los Angeles tomorrow for work and then this weekend Im driving back home so wanted everything in so I could demo it for friends and family. Onto the pictures! Amprack with the wiring (tes thats alot of wire right there) http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y287/SubSonicVibez/AMprackwiring.jpg Amprack with cover http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y287/SubSonicVibez/Amprackwithcover.jpg Kick Panels installed with woofer http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y287/SubSonicVibez/kickpanelinstalled.jpg Subwoofer with pods http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y287/SubSonicVibez/Finishedfornow.jpg well thats it for now. What do you all think? I could have done better IMO but it looks good for now =) -30 ttocs on 04/28/2007 09:44:33 looks good mang..... How is the imaging with the rear speaker so close and directly facing you? They are alot closer then the kicks. ShootuhMcBustaCap on 04/28/2007 10:08:17 Beautiful. The amp rack is pretty smooth too. How did you run the wires? under the vehicle? Just curious on how wiring amps to the bed of a truck works out. ttocs on 04/28/2007 15:51:48 i'm curious how they breath........ swez on 04/28/2007 19:49:40 Am curious how you breath in this tight fitting system? LOL Very nice work Jason and it all looks well planned too. Am curious how the Mid/Highs sound from the back as opposed to your front stage kicks? Also, what's your opinion of that CDT sub after this install? Allow a few hours to break it in before you can say for sure huh? Swez 30Hertz on 04/29/2007 03:51:37 Sorry for the late reply. I have been very very busy with work today and havent had a chance to log in. In fact I drove to Los Angeles to conduct some interviews today and took out a $20,000 internal theft case from one of our stores there. The Imaging with the rear speakers is great. The system is setup so the front kicks supply most of the sound and the rear is there mainly for fill to round out the whole soundstage (not that you really need it in a truck but since I had the components, why not use them?) Everything blends perfectly and you cant tell where the front stage ends, and the rear begins. As far as the amprack goes, all the wiring runs from within the trucks cab, through the back of the cab and directly into the bed. All wires were covered with tubing to prevent water and grime from comming in contact with them. In my Chevy Truck I had the 0 guage wiring run under the cab and never had a problem with it. You cant see but on the left side of the amprack and the bottom there are holes drilled to allow air in and out of the space. I'm also wiring in a couple fans to help with the cooling. I'm not totally finished with that section of the project yet because I plan on cutting the front cover panel so I can fit some plexi for a window, then I'm covering the amps with a flushed fiberglass finishing panel that will be painted too. The CDT sub sounds awesome. I have to do a little more tuning on the amplifiers but I'm very happy with the performance so far. Its not the make your ears bleed loud like I'm use to and its a nice change of pace. The music really comes alive. After It gets a few more hours of break in I'll be able to comment more on the sub. I also need to add some polyfill to the enclosure but I'll do that once I get back home this weekend. Alright I'm starting to hallucinate since I've been up since 3am and I just got home so I'm going to go get some sleep. Take Care -30 Pinch on 05/9/2007 19:33:30 I once called CDT and asked for their recommendation on an amp to push a set of their ES-643 components and without hesitation they said, "We use Tru-Technology amplifiers for ALL of our installs." and i have wanted to hear one of their copper series amps since! (rumor has it tube amps are the way to go if you want a nice warm sound) Anyway I just wanted to pop in again and say your install looks great. I am going to be re-doing the pods I built before to hold a 6.5 " driver I could have swarn fit in my door....but alas it will not. Of course I figured this out AFTER finishing the vinyl on my 4" kickpanel pods.....which turned out awesome....and are going to be thrown away. Sigh. Wisdom is not something you earn overnight, I suppose. Peace, Pinch Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
