I've got 4- 6" (18cm) round Sony raw speakers, p/n- 152928411. I can find absolutely NO info for them other than: what model speaker cabinets they originally came in (SS-VX8), and replacement cost. I know they're 6ohm, and if I'm not mistaken they're rated for 60wrms. Would anyone care to hazard a guess at an approximate speaker enclosure size? Any help would be appreciated. I have a pair of Polk 7a monitor bookshelf speakers and they use a single 6.5" woofer and 10" passive radiator in a fairly large box. http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showcase/view.php?userid=58136# Swez gearhead on 04/25/2007 21:18:19 Ok. What's a passive radiator? From what I've been able to find out, these speakers are for a cabinet that contains 2 of them, plus a tweeter, the whole thing rated for 200wrms. The speakers have a 1.5uf capacitor on the positive connection, with a "extra" connection to bypass it. swez on 04/25/2007 21:46:55 The passive radiator acts like a port and also vibrates some bass energy as well. It has no voice coils or magnet/motor structure either. That'a why they call it passive. As for your Sony speakers, it makes sense to use them in pairs and then a passive filter for the tweeters. If you are looking for something to do, consider making a sealed box of say 0.5 - 0.75 cf internal airspace and test them out. If the cones start whopping at bass notes, add more material inside the box to shrink the airspace until you get the best possible results. Comments? Swe gearhead on 04/25/2007 22:48:24 So, 0.5-0.75cf, with both speakers using the same airspace? These speakers seem to be fairly decent quality from what I can tell by my limited knowlege. They've got rubber surrounds, they're shielded, and the cones look like some sort of polycarbonate/plastic material. Current retail price on them is $140-$150 at the 2 places that say they have them. Just hanging in the air they sound pretty good. Just in case your curious as to what I'm doing, here's what I've got hooked up. 2 Infinity Reference 1230 12" subs 2 Bazooka EL1014 10" subs 2 Sony Explode 6x9's (yeah, I know they're laughable, that's why I'm going to hook upn the Sony's) 2 Bazooka RS75.2HC (600w x 1@ 2ohm) 1 Bazooka EL460 (85w x 4 @ 2ohm) 1 Kepco 125A @ 13.5v power supply 1 Cosel 125A @ 13.5v power supply This is in my "garage" (30'x50' insulated metal building with 18' eaves). I'll probably get started on the enclosures tomorrow. Thanks for the info. If you've got any suggestions, fire away. But remember, I'm a cheapskate.
