MAD MAD SAD What a wild weekend here in Panama City!!! Two days after I installed some stuff for a buddy of mine, he calls me up to tell me that it's been stolen. The subs didn't even get time to break in!!!!! They didn't touch a brand new microwave in the trunk, just his Kenwood bass amp and two E.D. 12"s. Another vehicle (with no stereo) next door was hit for walleet w/ military I.D. and a PS3. To make matters worse, 5 more guys on his brothers street around the corner somewhat, were hit as well in the same night. All military guys!!!!??? The only guy not in the service was my homie although his brother is in. I would hate to think that it's another service guy behind it, but it's definitley someone that they know and it seems pointed that way. With all the other civilian cars with much equipment next door and surrounding areas, you would think they would have been hit as well. Either way my man didn't even get to the finished install and enjoy a complete system. Ridiculous! Replies (8) cplkittle on 04/24/2007 21:40:13 That sucks! I had 2 diamond 8" subs and a diamond 1000.1 stolen from my shop one day. I remember the kid that came in and asked to use the rest room. I was busy when he left, and I noticed they were missing. I called all of the local shops and let them know, and he was arrested 3 days later when he went to a shop about 40 miles away to get them installed. swez on 04/24/2007 22:04:36 That's not good at all Ash. Kittle, you were on the ball and diligence paid off well... Priceless story!!! Swez cplkittle on 04/25/2007 00:07:38 I did what the cops told me to do. They said he would either try to have them installed somewhere else, pawn them, or trade them for drugs (which then the options start over). ttocs on 04/25/2007 13:05:07 alarm 1rst, stereo 2nd..... it sucks but ya don't put the cart before the horse. cplkittle on 04/25/2007 14:53:10 lol, that should be your quote ttocs. I have seen you tell at least a dozen people that in the past year or 2. Ash on 04/25/2007 17:54:11 You know Ttocs, that is looking like the way is has to be now. In a relatively small town like P.C., normally that wouldn't be a problem as much. Now since a lot of people are migrating towards this area, there is no telling what the "wind has blown in". Any suggestions on a simple but effective alarm system? One with paging capabilities would be nice so the cops would have time to catch them... cplkittle on 04/25/2007 19:21:51 there are 2 way alarm systems that are good for up to a mile. The keychain LCD remote will light up, start beeping, and some of them vibrate when the alarm is triggered. There are a few out there that will take snapshots when the alarm goes off. Using the siren wire and a relay, you could trigger almost anything when the alarm goes off: strobe lights, other sirens, starter kill (usually connected to armed wire), flame throwers, firecrackers, electric fence wire, door lock trigger, disable trunk release... Amost anything you want. swez on 04/25/2007 19:58:46 I love the flame trower idea, but it has a glitch... suppose it torches the whole car? How about a DC pulse generator that is then connected to a high voltage step up coil. (Old ignition coil system delivers what 20,000 volts or more?) When the alarm is triggered, it sends battery power to the pulse generator and then to the coil. The coil is wired to an electrical grid of positive and negative wires that are spaced over your amp rack, but invisable at night. When someone tries to remove the amp, they touch the unseen wire grid and get one nice ZAP!!! If the amp is in a tight spot, the perp will have a knee jerk reaction to the shock and probably knock himself silly in the process. Then, the trunk lid closes automatically and you have to drive to the police station or call them to come and get the perp. Now, that's a spider web with some real bite huh?
