What do Fs and Efficiency(SPL) numbers mean in real life?!?!?!

K guys I'm deciding between some subs here and I got the specs on a few things and was wondering WHAT exactly these numbers mean as far as real life, how they will effect it's sound and performance. Here's the numbers:

Fs (Frequency Response)

JL Audio 12w6v2: 25Hz
Adire Audio 12" Shiva: 21Hz
Elemental Designs 12" 'A' Series: 27.3Hz

Efficiency (SPL)

JL Audio 12w6v2: 85.9db
Adire Audio 12" Shiva: 87.2db
Elemental Designs 12" 'A' Series: Unlisted?!?!

I'm mainly looking for a sub that will hit HARD and LOUD while still being real crisp and clean sounding. Do these numbers signify at all which would be the best pick, or are there additional numbers I should be looking at? Also, any other subs not listed here that you think might be a good fit for what I'm trying to do? Thanks guys!

"Resonance:

'fs':
Free air (not in an enclosure) resonance of the driver. All speakers have a resonant frequency. At this frequency, the impedance increases significantly.

'fc':
This is the resonant frequency in a sealed enclosure. The resonant frequency will tend to be higher but the impedance will not go as high.

The lower the Fs, the lower the sub can play with adequate amplification."

Quoted from Eatel site: http://www.eatel.net/~amptech/elecdisc/speaker.htm

SPL Sensitivity:

This is a number that tells us how much 1 watt of input power, (1.41 Volts ... some do 2.83 Volts) will come out at 1 meter away from the sub.

This number is only really useful if the tests were all administered with the same values. Ie: Frequency used, watt/voltage used, free air (anechoic chamber) calibrated mike and SPL meters. Many sub makers really "fudge on" this one to fool the masses. No real industry standard all are willing to use.

Chances are good thet JL is an accurate number, based on their testing process... same with Adire... but the test crfiteria may not be the same nor the results. Both are quality vendors.

Best you can do is fix your SPL targets within X-max (excursion factor) and voice coil ratings (watts).

Sorry if I confused you... but can replay it a new way if you need it...

PS High SPL subs tend to be lower on the sensitivity numbers because of the mass they have to move.

Light cone woofers/speakers used in HT and low end OEM, use high efficiency values as they have very low powered amps to push them.
