My HU was working fine for 6 months and all of a sudden it started making a weird cracking noise through the speakers and know the the HU has no sound but seems to be working fine .do you know what can be the problem?

It sounds like the HU just went into self-destruct mode here. What make and model did you install here? Did you install it yourself or have it done professionally?

In the past symptoms like these have been a result of a grounded speaker wire. Try using the fade and balance to isolate each speaker one at a time. If they all work except one, that is where the problem lies.
It could also be in the radio as noted above, but by checking the speakers first, we can isolate the problem to either the car or the radio. And please do list the make and model of the car and the radio. That will tell us if you are dealing with any factory amplifiers or other equiptment associated with that type of vehicle. Also, is this a factory or aftermarket HU, and did you have it installed, or did you do it yourself.

well if that did not help anything then we are probably looking at a some really bad wiring or a bad unit. Who put it in? Did the honda have any kind of premium system?

Or it is just a piece of crap Dual head unit, and is out of it's 3 month warranty period. My stepdad has a dual deck in his Ranger, and the display went out on the 91st day. I would take a used good head unit over a brand new Dual any day of the week. Cost bout the same too.
