Well since I lost a VC in my Brahma, Im done with that sub now. I've had it for about 4 years now and its time to move onto my dream sub, the W7. If I go to a local shop what should I be seeing for prices on the W7's? I want to know the price for a 12" in the HO ported box and in JL's sealed box. I would also like to know the same for the 10". I was quoted $1100 for the 12 in the HO and $200 less for the 10" And I believe $1000 for the 12 in its JL sealed box and $200 less for the 10". Is this right? I thought it was just under $1000 for the 12". He did say that JL just raised the price $100. Replies (9) 30Hertz on 04/17/2007 13:55:40 the 12" W7 is going to run a pretty penny. I'd check ebay or internet retailers such as www.woofersetc.com. Are you set on the w7? There are plenty of other options out there that will perform with, or exceed the W7 depending on the application. The W7 is an awesome woofer dont get me wrong, I've got a 8w7 and like it but there are other options out there. ShootuhMcBustaCap on 04/17/2007 21:46:58 I would definitely look elsewhere than the W7 if that is what they are quoting you at. Cartoys, the local carrier of JL, offers the 12W7 in the JL sealed box for around $800. That is with the box included. I can't give you any help with the ported though, as I have never seen it offered for sale. Where were you quoted this price? I think it sounds like this homeboy was trying to raise his commission $100 to me. cplkittle on 04/17/2007 21:58:43 The markup on JL is huge from an authorized distributor. I would find a small mom and pop shop that carries JL and flash $600 cash in their face. They will probably take it. Ebay prices are usually a 5-10% markup over dealer cost. The most common price for a 12w7 on ebay is $500 + $50 shipping. It probably costs $25-$30 to ship it, so let's say the profit is $525. That tells me that the dealer cost is somewhere between $475 and $500. Let them make $100 or so and you get the sub and make sure you get a full warranty as well. ryan2 on 04/17/2007 22:12:21 I will be going with a W7. I want to stay away from Ebay since I know they like to cut open the sub and stuff to get rid of all the serial numbers and plus it wont be under warranty. This place I dealt with probably 3 years ago. I guess I'll go back in there ,make sure the box will fit my car then offer them $900 cash for the 12" in JL HO box. And see what I can bargain with them. I was a good customer back in the day but now its sum new guy workin there. ShootuhMcBustaCap on 04/17/2007 22:22:40 Generally, if you make yourself out ot be a well educated consumer, and throw lower prices that you got from this place and that, they will be more willing to do you a discount. Basically, be freindly, but make it out that they are breaking your stuff, and you are shopping around for a better deal. Salesman are usually hungry folk, and they usually have PLENTY of room to work with. Basically, what discount they give you is coming out of their commission. Some of these guys are sticklesr though, and aren't giving up anything. I would seroiusly go with Kit's reccommendation here. Mom and Pop stores are generaly good people, and also needing the cash in the days that they are being nearly pushed out of business by the big box stores. They are all but nonexistant in my area now. If the box is a big need, we can walk you through building a sweet box to go with your new W7 to save yourself some money. ryan2 on 04/17/2007 22:32:15 The thing that sucks though is this is really the only place close by that I kno of that sells JL. I've build boxes for my previous installs but I would rather just not deal with building another one at this time. cplkittle on 04/17/2007 23:19:25 I would not start my offer at $900, I would seriously go with no higher than $750 for my opening offer. I was a manager for a mom and pop shop two years ago. The industry is in a tight spot, and smaller shops are hungry for any business. This information is great for the consumers who chose to use it wisely. If I could make a sale on a walk in and profit $100 on an item I paid less than $500 on, I would haggle a bit, but in the end I would be happy to make the sale. The only problem you might run into is salesmen on comission. They are not as likely to bite on a low offer. If you deal with the owner or manager, you are more likely to get a deal. ShootuhMcBustaCap on 04/17/2007 23:27:23 Well Said Kit! ryan2 on 04/23/2007 18:20:44 I decided to put my sub back in and use the working VC. So I tested both to find the bad VC by putting the power wire onto the tinsel lead. BOth worked. Then I tried through the terminal and only one worked. So that had me thinking it was the terminal. But I jiggled the tinsel lead on the bad side and the positive tinsel lead were it goes through the terminal and soldered to it it was spliced to were it was almost not connected. So I pushed the wire through the hole a bit and soldered the wire so It was well connected. It works now til I get the W7. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
