if one of the speakers shorts out, the deck will turn off the amp to protect itself. To test this I would simply disconnect one speaker(pos or neg) and see if the others came on. While it was disconnected if you have an ohm meter and know how to use it this is a great time just to double check and see how many ohms the speaker reads on the meter. Do this for all 4 speakers.

I would also look for a reset button. It it normally no bigger then a pin hole either on the face or behind it.

Speaking of burnt and smoked-One time I tried to connect a pioneer deck in a vehicle that I used to own. All of my old wiring was still ran, and after connecting power and ground for a test, the deck quickly caught fire. Just about scared the hell out of me. As if I needed any more reasons not to like Pioneer!

Talk about a HOT deck!

Bout 5years ago I had my electricals for my CB radio short. It cought fire and burnt all the way from the battery to the deck and filled the whole truck with thick white smoke. Luckily it didnt burn the truck to the ground. Lucky lesson about why fusing is important.

The wire was fused, but something in the deck was not..........

ive learned most of the time that when something like this goes wrong it probably could have be prevented....

All was up to snuff on this one. It was a deck that was given to a family member from one of her freinds. It was wired with 10Ga amp cable to the fuse box and ground, and fused at 10 amps. No fuses were blown on the deck or on the wire. Just a good smokey scare, and a laugh afterward. Especially that no money was lost in the process.

yea well this 9200 cost me some dough back in the day .....id like to get it fixed but the guy that usually did my repairs doesnt do it anymore....he used to sell hi-end amps n stuff that he repaired for cheap but now he sold out to selling new merchandise ..mostly flea market brands such as boss and legacy....tried to get me to buy some of that crap.

if ANY speaker wire(pos or neg) gets grounded or shorted out there will be NO sound from the unit until it is fixed.

If it smells smoked then that is different........
