I have an Alpine 9851 connected to a JBL 1200.1 amp via RCA cable. Last week the bass would cut out at low volume but once I turned the volume up it would kick back in. Well it kept getting worse I would have to have the volume turned up even louder to still have bass. Well finally I have no bass at any volume. Amp stays on during the whole time and doesn't go into any protection mode. Also messing with the amp gain doesnt do anything. I tried a new set of RCA cables nothing. I tried different RCA outputs (front and rear) on the 9851 and nothing has changed. So Im guessing its the CD player that is causing the problem. I have no way of switching to a different CD player or amp for testing purposes. I wanted to get a new cd player this year anyways, but I dont want to if the problem is the amp and not the cd player. Any help would be appreciated. Replies (4) ryan2 on 04/16/2007 15:47:44 Actually its something with my sub. Most likely a loose wire. I just went out and bought the Alpine DX?-X001 MP3 HU. And no bass. Then I remembered I do have a spare amp. Well still no bass. Im waiting for my drill to charge so I can take the sub out. 30Hertz on 04/16/2007 16:39:16 So how exactly is everything wired up? I'm assuming your RCAs are comming from the Sub Out on the deck to the input on the amplifier along with a REMote wire running from the deck to the amp to turn it on and off? This sounds more of an amplifier issue than anything. A subwoofers volume is dependent on the amplifier and the enclosure design. You could take out the sub and just check to the VCs to make sure the impendance is still reading correctly and nothing is loose but that is pretty much it. It is possible that if it is a DVC sub that maybe one of the leads on a VC came off. Have you hooked up your spare amplifier and set it up correctly to make sure its not your current amplifier/ -30 swez on 04/16/2007 16:48:49 Actually, this could be a sub on the route to failure. If the tinsel wires are overly stressed for a while, (Over-excursion) these wires can pull loose from the woofer at the binding posts or voice coils inder the dust cap. Adding a tad more juice can make the sub work for a while, but if one lead detaches, NO BASS. Swez ryan2 on 04/16/2007 16:56:29 I had this sub 12" Brahma Mark II reconed in back in December of 06. It was the tinsel leads and damaged VC if you may remember. I have the sub wired in series and have it in a smaller box now approximately 1.25cuft sealed. I dont have the gain turned up since Im waiting for a smaller box, so it hasnt been pushed to its limits. I took the sub out and one of the VC went bad. I sent adire an email. Im hoping they will cover it or else Im going to cut my lose and either get a JL W7 or W6. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
