Finally got my Gel Cell battery today, and after many hour of shopping around, I got a great deal ($100) on an Optima Red Top. This thing is sweet! I could tell the difference by merely starting the car. It started with about half of the cranking time. Then I turned on the system, and there was a notable diference in loudness. On the freeway, this thing helps accelleration so much that in places I used to have to floor it for a downshift, this thing just picked up and let me loaf up the hill while accellerating. It is rated at 800CCA and 1000CA. this is a nice 250-amp and 350-amp gain, respectively. Plus it has terminals for top and side mount, so it works nicely using my stock connectors with side mounts, and using the top mount for accessories as well as my alternator cable. It's not quite dark yet, but I will find out if it effects the horrible diming issues I was having. Coming soon: a nice High Output alternator to accompany it. If I recall. you have already done the Big 3 wiring job yes? Swez ShootuhMcBustaCap on 04/13/2007 22:28:24 Yup, Big 3 is corrected. I am not too optimistic about the dimming solution as it seems my 10 year old alt is kicking the bucket. I have a new one in about a month. Then it's time for me to get some new gear. My buddy at Car Toys recently was promoted to assistant manager, and cut me about 50 dollars off of reatail, and sold it to me out of a different store. The look on their managers face! Classic!! jamesp on 04/13/2007 22:44:30 Good job Shootah, bumpin in tha Bucket. 30Hertz on 04/13/2007 23:55:49 Great Price in that battery =) Once you've had a good battery you generally wont settle for less. -30 ShootuhMcBustaCap on 04/14/2007 09:59:43 You Know It James!! I was estatic to see my dimming problems all but cured. At driving rpm (which is usually ??? RMP as my car has no tach!) the lights do not dim at all! Killer!! at idle with the brake lights on, the fogs on, the wipers on, the defroster on, and the heater on, it still dims, but only as much as it did at driving RPM's. OMG and the effects on my accelaration and sound system! This is by far the best mod I have made to my car yet! I have always had nothing but the worst batteries, and with all the future mods I want to do, I need the headroom in terms of amperage to do what the hell I please. My battery was dying, so I wasn't going to put a band aid on it. I needed a permanent solution. I am having mad trouble finding a H.O. alternator. I don't have a credit card or anything, and locally, there is nothing within the rande of amps I want to run here. I am totally stumped. Mom and Pop stores do not exist in my area anymore, so I don't even know where to look. The only parts store with employees that speak English says they send your stock alternator, after you take out, to a "customizer," who modifies your stock POS." I don't think the goal is to keep my 10+ year old alternator. Some desparetely needed help please?!?! I want to start doing some resarch so I know what kind of task I have on hand here. ShootuhMcBustaCap on 04/14/2007 23:58:18 ^Bump^ Anyody???? swez on 04/15/2007 10:07:10 Motorcityreman.com, (based in Detroit, MI area) has some very good prices on H.O. Alts and several guys have used them with very good results. If you don't have a CC, perhaps your parents will flip for it as you pay them back? http://www.motorcityreman.com/high-amp-alternators-buick-century.html The age of an ALT is not an issue. A good refurb shop will gut it, clean it and Mod it to the limits of the casing used. That often means new bearings, HD brushes, armature, HD diode pack, HD regulator and perhaps a stronger field coil. This could take a while to get it done though. It just depends on what parts are needed and if they are on hand or not. Now, this car probably has a stock GM CS130 ALT. (105/108A's max) Reman states their MAXX series is for the CS144 version and may not be a drop in fit to CS130 brackets. However, they may have other options if your car can handle the CD130D version. (Deeper casing) I have managed to fit a 130D in my 92 Buick LeSabre. It was a very tight fit, but it did drop into the CS130 standard mounts. Talk to them and see what your options are. 586.773.2089 Swez ShootuhMcBustaCap on 04/15/2007 22:17:55 Word thanks Swez! It seemed to have the same fit when I checked the mout a while ago. The parents may be willing to help, since I make the last payment this week. I will give them a call and see how lucky I can get here. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
