Well folks, it's almost over. I awoke to the sounds of metal banging as it was tossed into the back of a van at 4:00 AM this morning. It was my neighbor's hired hands, loading up the pool struts and related hardware in the driveway. Hum, I'd normally be a bite grumpy at this rude awaking at this time of day, but found myself musing the thought that after 10 years of lousy/loud neighbors, the end is now in sight. My guess, they have to be out by the 15th and the new owners will come in shortly. I hear via the grapevine it's a younger couple w/o kids. If they are quiet and respectful of the neighbors, I will indeed be one happy Swez. I also found my self humming a little ditty that goes to the tune of an old Wizzard of OZ tune: Ding dong the witch is gone Which old witch? The Wicked witch, the wicked witch next door GRIN Yeah, I am one HAPPY camper today alrighty. No more boom cars in the driveway, a slew of shady kids on Mopeds, zooming up and down the driveway while my stepdad is trying to get some much needed rest, no more yelling a scream fest at all hours of the day or night and a host of other bad behaviors that I care not one wit for either. Yes Sir... this is a great day and I am even grateful to see her move in the night if needed. Yeee-Haa, go out with a bang if you like, but just go and don't come back to visit either. My prayers have been answered, Swez HAPPY CLAP LOL Replies (30) ShootuhMcBustaCap on 04/13/2007 22:18:38 Glad to see that things are working out better for you. Crazy that they started moving things at such hours, thats a bit early for anybody's taste I think. Younger couple neighbor setup will probably be nice for you, unless they have screaming or throwing stuff issues. But my best freind is a young (21) engaged guy, and him and his lady are the quietest people I know. Also the most mature people I know. He does have a little girl, but she lives with Mom most of the time. In either case, enjoy the newfound peace and quiet that you are finding on the 15. jamesp on 04/13/2007 22:41:53 Glad to hear that the living situation is in for an improvement. I think you handled the problem as well as possible. It would be hard to deal with. We live on a private drive with 4 houses and all family. I own the house next door and recently rented it to a young couple with a 6 month old baby after letting it sit vacant for nearly 9 months. The reason it stayed vacant for so long is that I dont advertise it for rent as I could run into a problem if an undesirable person wanted to rent the house and I wouldnt let them. Better safe than sorry. We rarely even lock our doors here. One of my hardware store employees lived there for 9 years but passed away a little over 2 years ago and then a friend of my wifes that divorced needed some help so we moved her in for a while. Hope your new neighbors are just what you are looking for and everything improves on your block.Sometimes it is hard enough for me to maintain my serenity under the best of conditions and none of us need unecessary disruption of our lives because others dont know how to properly conduct themselves. My tolerance threshold for idiots seems to be a fairly thin line these days. 30Hertz on 04/13/2007 23:47:44 Sounds like a WIN for you. Hopefully the young couple won't be one of the social types that likes to throw house parties. Back home my neighbors moved out and their cousin moved into the house. Little did we know that he was going to turn it into a total dump. Old Tractors, Beat up Pick Up trucks, people comming and going at all hours of the night and dust up the wazoo. Since I've moved and living on the coast in a pretty quiet town it has changed a little bit. I rent from a family that lives in L.A. and owns the house next door. They don't come up very often but when they do its not very quiet. They use the Washer and Dryer at my house in the laundry room (its right outside my bedroom) and sometimes they have the bright idea to come over and dry their clothes at 10pm right as I'm winding down and getting ready to retire. Not only that but they have about four young kids that think my back yard, and side yard is their play pen. I'll wake up in the morning to kids yelling and running through my yard (even tho there is a gate and a 7ft fence seperating the two and they constantly leave my gate open). It miffs me off pretty good. Since I've spoken some words to the property management company the kids dont come over as much but they still leave my gate open. I'm thinking about getting a padlock and shutting that sucker so they dont have access to my side yard (since it IS mine) and putting a sign up in the back that says "beware of pissed off resident with shotgun". Either that or getting really pissed off and having some words with the parents and telling them to keep their kids in their yard since I am renting the property, I have my right to privacy. /End Rant P.S. I just realized I'm getting old even tho im 24 haha. I prefer peace and quiet and hate idiots with a passion. swez on 04/14/2007 07:33:11 As I read your responses, it dawned on me that most people like a quiet neighborhood. The average age of people living on this block is probably over 65. There are a few younger couples with kids, a few over 40's couples and the rest are well past 65. All are pretty quiet, keep to themselves and we help each other out when we know they need help. It seems that once people hit their mid-30's or so, they too prefer a quiet place to retreat after a full day of work and such. We did have a rental house across the street that was pretty off the hook for about 3 years with dope dealing going on a few times a month, but we managed to weed them out. (2 renters in a row) Now the house is owned by a quiet youger couple w/ 1 child and they are very quiet now too. Let's just hope the new next door couple is well in line too and don't throw wild parties during the summer months. If they do, I'll be part of the welcoming committee and help them see the light. (Setting their jacuzzi on fire would probably get their attention huh?) Swez ShootuhMcBustaCap on 04/14/2007 09:43:39 I can't honestly say I like a quiet neighorhood. I have never really lived in one, but when ever I visit one, it seems eeire. When my old next door neighbor of many years moved in with his sister and law enforcement brother in law, he moved into one of those really quiet neighorhoods. We would sit on the porch, drink beer as always, and virtually whisper knowing thwe sound of our voices is the loudest thing happening. I live in a pretty loud mobile home park currently. The residential population consists pretty much of hoodlums, Illegal immagrants, meth-heads and a few good eggs and elderly people. But it doesn't bother me, as this is quiet compared to some places where I have lived. I think the sound of my handiwork in a freinds car is a much more pleasant wake up call than fights, feistas sirens and gunshots. I used to live in a really cheap centrally located apartment complex. It was about 5 times worse than anything I have dealt with here. Sometimes, I actually miss it. Have had trouble personally being considered said noisy neihbor in the past, although I usually consider my listineng/partying noise etiquite to be pretty decent by comparison to most people my age. I actually sold off and gave away my home audio rig piece by peice becaues I really couldn't use it anymore. I also have never been issued a tixcket for unreasonable noise, nor has anybody so much as complained about me in about a year. Living in a place with paper thin walls and no yards to seperate said paper makes one chill out I guess. Especially when a noise ordinance fine in Fort Collins is a $1400 court appearance. Where I used to live, $60 mail in ticket. I really hate this city........................ It is now the 14th. I bet you are counting the hours......... swez on 04/14/2007 14:23:38 Actually, it's stone dead quiet here today. No cars in the dive, no vans or moving vehicles and NO noisy neighbors. I'm as giddy as a school lad at his first rock concert! After living in many places over the years, I have noted the quietest neighborhoods are where there are home in the $250,000 and up scenario. People who have money can demand peace and quiet can afford that luxury. Figures huh? These are often the safest communities as they have limited access and often gatekeepers too. A bit boring though. One hardly ever sees a fellow neighbor as most are always working to pay their monsterous bills each month. It's rare to really get to know the neighbors. As we move down the socio-economic scale, Blue collar, middle class working folks work hard, play hard and make some noise once in while to blow off steam. This is the fun clan and there's often a few good block parties during the summer months to keep things interesting. In time, one gets to know all the neighbors, help each other out when calamity strikes and basically a pretty tight knit community. I like this pretty well and have been in these neighbohoods most of my life. Low budget apartments and trailer parks are the worst places to live from experience. A good number of people here are loud, rowdy, lawless and sometimes even dangerous. Theft and breakins to cars are normal and happen all the time. Since the walls are pretty thin and so is the flooring in stacked apartment building, we can hear most anything above normal conversation levels. (The guy who beats on his wife and kids, the woman who shreeks at her boyfriend/hubby when he comes home drunk on weekends, the kids as they scamper around the rooms, ect) I kinda would like to try a rural setting someday. A 2-5 acre plot with plenty of trees, a paved road and at least 1500 feet of space between each/any neighbors. OK, so I have to drive 20 minutes or so to do some major shopping and such. Fine by me. Especially if the roads are clear of grid lock and one can clip along nicely at 45-50 MPH as well. Don't need no palace, 3,000 sf home, 4 car garage or a 1,000 sf workshop either. Just some space to walk about the property, mind my own business and wave to passing neighbors. Boy, am I a dreamer or what? LOL Swez MrBrownstone on 04/14/2007 22:26:19 I'm surprised that you didn't rise at revelle and start loading boxes for them :-) What you want, my friend, is North Dakota. There's no neighbors for miles, large homes cost practically nothing, plenty of trees, city lots are spacious, traffic is non-existent. I'll sell you a home for $33,800 :-) ShootuhMcBustaCap on 04/14/2007 23:49:40 Rural setups can be ok, but I seriously hate being that far from civilazation, and I hate dirt roads even more. But there is the advantage of being as loud as you want and not a neihbor for miles to complain. Maybe I should try one of these working class blue collar hoods. Could work out for me... 30Hertz on 04/15/2007 03:09:48 I've loved living in the country. Matter of fact, I won't live in a big city, or deep in a city. When I buy my own place I'm going to find a nice 1-2acre spread out in the boons. I dont care about driving 20mins into town, ive done that my whole life =) cplkittle on 04/15/2007 03:24:57 I agree 100%, 30.. I have always been able to walk out on the front porch and take the morning whiz without frightneing anyone. wouldn't have it any other way. swez on 04/15/2007 09:17:01 This is too funny and it sure is nice to get some personal opinions on what we all think to be the ideal life. Have several friends that live in the near boonies and whenever visiting them, it's such a nice break. One couple I have known for over 20 years, had 2 very nice places, (Not ritzie, but cozy) in IN. One near Indy and the other far south near the ILL boarder. Everytime I went to visit them, we had a celebration, turned up the stereo/HT and went bass fishing. I hated to leave and they have since moved to the Knoxville,TN area and suggest coming down, find a job and hang out w/ them for a few months. Boy, is that a tempting option or what? After a few more winters in MI, that might just be an option. Frankly, big city life is not at all appealing. The burbs are OK, but traffic, congestion and the hectic pace are not very appealing anymore either. As we get older, (set in ones ways) it might be a wonderful option to try a semi-rural scenario. After a few visits, it's easy to see the benefits of low traffic, having some space between neighbors and a more relaxed pace seems like a very good thing to consider. Have tried the bonnies route out too and it's just too isolated. Would probably like a place where one can step outside, have a look around and take a wizz w/o anyone to take notice or care if they did. That comment is priceless there Kittle. LOL Mr B., Help them move by loading boxes? Naw, have been doing a lot of that the past few weeks already in FL and now here too. We have so much stuff to organize, pack, sell, give away ect. It's like living in a 10 lb box with 50 lbs of stuff in it already. It feels like moving day, all the time of late. Swez ttocs on 04/15/2007 12:34:12 my neighbors 18 yr old just showed up last week with a little 80 cc ofroad dirt bike. I do not know what the heck the kid is thinkin as he looks like total idiot on it since it is soo small but it is cetainly loud enough that we can hear him come and go, 8-10 times a day. He is not a bad kid and I have taken him mountain biking a few times so I have told him more then a few times how I feel about it, and how stupid he looks on it but.... They just announced they are moving a couple of streets over and I am not sure yet if that will be a good thing or not, it can always get worse. The neighborhood has been interesting lately as I even watched my nighbors house get robbed..... I saw a couple of high school kids infront of a house that doens't normally have kids in front of it(single mothers house with a 12 yr old and 2 toddlers). I thought it looked wierd but figured they were waiting for the kid I was just complaining about so I didn't pay too much attention to them. My dog kept barking though and I peeked out later to see two more kids come out from between the houses with a small box. They all hopped in their cars and took off. 3 hrs later the cops were at the same house. I took note of the cars but was not able to get a license plate. And last night one of my neighbors decided to take some hot laps around the nighborhood on his harley with open pipes.......... i disagree with your $250k house people wanting quiet swez as my house just went over that but it seems I am the only one that enjoys my back yard and living room peacefull.... swez on 04/15/2007 17:59:07 Mang... that does suck huh? Well, perhaps my comment does not ring true in your neighborhood, but in the many communities I travel and have friends and such upscale neighborhoods, it would be "open season on fools" like those mentioned in your story. They paid big money to get a nice home in a quiet burb. If that gets disturbed for too long, something is done about it. (Police, private citizens or both will combine forces and that often puts a fat lid on things quickly) Good luck and join the "neighborhood watch" program. Cops can't be everywhere, but sharp eyes and a cell phone can curtail things pretty fast. Swez cplkittle on 04/15/2007 21:46:23 Out here, if you pull both triggers on the double barrel at the same time all of the annoyances disappear (barking dogs, dirtbikes, stereos). We do have some noisy neighbors about a quarter mile away. One has a yellow mustang with a pretty loud stereo in it. I hear the distant, but annoying boom boom boom from time to time, and I take that as a challenge. I crank up the kia for a minute or two and I don't hear his anymore. I was overjoyed this morning as I watched the yellow stang and a couple of four wheelers leave the area by means of a couple of tow trucks followed by a county and 3 state patrol cars. I don't know if it was a repo or what, but I don't think they will be back soon. They never really bothered me that much, maybe once a month. swez on 04/16/2007 01:39:12 I love that story Kittle!!! I doubt it was a repo as Pros do that for a living and do things on the stealth. My guess, if these dudes were up to something big enough to get the State Police involved, it's serious and not a routine repo job. Happy days for you too huh? Swez PS See there... we do get answers to spoken and thought prayers as well huh? O Happy Day HAPPY cplkittle on 04/16/2007 08:25:19 there was much satisfaction in seeing those tow trucks. I never really had a problem with them to be honest. They rode their dirtbikes all day during the summer that I worked nights, but after a friendly phone call they omitted the loop in their track that went behind our place. My wife, on the other hand, has much animosity towards them. Apparently they have called the cops on her and her family for playing the house stereo too loud. swez on 04/16/2007 12:21:28 Looks like they responded well to your need for sleep and changed their route to accomodate. (Kudos for asking and they responded) As for your wife's scenario, only you guys know the real details there and perhaps she had the last word w/o saying a thing. That's what I call a righteous payback. Those are the best kind as they are most appropriate last words and we never need to get into the fray. Love seeing them come from time to time huh? SMILE Swez ShootuhMcBustaCap on 04/20/2007 10:13:46 WOW! Was almost threatened with a shotgun after quoting Kit's line "Out here, if you pull both triggers on the double barrel at the same time all of the annoyances disappear" I was made to walk down my parent's 4x4 trail that they live on with my little brother. Was thinking about cutting through a yard, when I thought some neihbor might be annoyed. Quoted said line as a joke to my little brother, as I find it hilarious, and after we finish laughing, we hear a voice in the backround "What's that about a double barrel shotgun?" I tried to explain to the dumb sap I was making a joke to my brother, but to no avail. He yells at me "I got a loaded one in the house, how bout I go get it?" I tell the guy thats not neccassary, but the psycho yells back, "keep your Mutha******G comments to yourself!" and repeats himself many times, while I was trying to explain that the comment was kept to himself, and he was eavesdropping on a personal conversation. Hard to reason with an idiot who has a loded shotgun in the crib............. What do do in a situation like this? Last time I called police, I got in trouble, but a threat to my, and more over, my little brother's life is not something to take to lightly......... Maybe time to get Mom and StepPops to go have a freindly conversation with this **** and get some issues settled. I can't beleive the nerve of this guy threatening me and my bro over a joke. I would love to smash on this fool, but I think a more mature and adult solution needs to occur, and quick. cplkittle on 04/20/2007 10:40:24 Man, I didn't mean to stir up some hate yo. If you were not on his land, that is a threat to your life. I'm not encouraging you to call the police, but if you are threatened for no reason like that, that is wrong. I probably would call if it happened again.. that's BS. If I were by myself I would tell him to go ahead and get it. I understand about you being with your kid brother though. There is no need to carelessly encourage an idiot when your little brother is with you. ShootuhMcBustaCap on 04/20/2007 11:11:05 Not your bad at all. I still think thats some of the funniest crap I have heard in a long time. We were not on his land, basically some nutjob picking on some of his neighbors kids. My little brother and I aren't that little (at 20 and 22 respectively), and this crap was totally uncalled for. I would have wiped the floor with him if he didn't have the time to run in the house and grab said shotgun. Definitely don't think the fat old man could have kept up with my youth, but a shotgun is a shotgun, and I wouldn't have had time to rush him before I became swiss cheese.... If I was by myself, I would have told him to grab her up and check nuts with him, (especially with a 12 gauge at 75+ yard range, definitely less scary) but my lil' bro ain't much of a fighter, and he, as you said, definitely didn't need to be egged on. Personally, I think the guy is a great exaple of how much a gun and an attitude can make a person a totall female reproductive system. I think me and the parentals will be paying this guy a visit. I would have loved to call police, but again, I always end up the one screwed. I would just love to find out how tough the guy is when my little brother and a loaded gun aren't in the picture. I bet he would kept his comments to himself. All over some nosy ******* who had to but into a private conversation. I am still going to laugh at that line though. That's too good to be ruined by some idiot. swez on 04/21/2007 04:03:26 You need to move to a better neighborhood mang. Life in that park is no walk in the park huh? Old grumpy fart... "female reproductive system"? So, he's an ovary or maybe a boob? Naw, that don't sound right... don't much care for pushy neighbors either. IDEA Swez PS It's been a whole week of peace and quiet. The nit-wits are gone and I did see a few (newer) PU Trucks in the drive tonight. Looks like the new neighbors are getting ready to settle in soon. Have yet to see or meet them yet, but maybe this weekend things will begin to happen. Oh I do hope they are indeed a nice couple that are quiet and still be friendly. Who knows, maybe she's a cutie and will look good in Bikini too. The hot tub is located off the rear deck of the house and it would sure be nice to see a slender cutie in the hot tob instead of the usual huddle of hippos. LOL ShootuhMcBustaCap on 04/21/2007 10:35:51 Eazy there Swez! Thal Shalt not covet another man's mife right????? J/K, you gotta love hot neibhors when scantily clad! Much better than a hippo pond. I hear they are dangerous when provoked. That was up at the parents "ranch" as I like to call it. They live way out in the sticks, and the road up there isn't even bucket worthy, which is why I ended up walking. Good times. Just another rambling idiot willing to talk from 75 yards with a gauge, but not within 75 inches. Then maybe his pushy hindquarters could have realized it was a laugh shared between brothers, not quite buckshot worthy material. cplkittle on 04/21/2007 13:09:17 I kinda like hippo ponds. . . . swez on 04/21/2007 16:07:49 Me to Kittle... but would you enjoy 3-4 gals in their mid 30's, 5 foot tall and all weighing in at 275-300 lbs each. (All yapping at the top of their lungs about trash talk? How attractive huh? Busta, yes.. that ie the 10th Commandment: "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, man servant, maid servant, his donkey or oxen." OK, we don't have maids and man servants, a donkey or an ox per-se... but when I think about it, my buddy was an OX, and his Ex is a donkey of the Nth degree. We'll just leave it at that and see how the new neighbors play out in time. (Bikini or not) Swez ShootuhMcBustaCap on 04/21/2007 20:15:52 Normally, I covet the donkeys and oxen. My farm animals are lazy.......... swez on 04/21/2007 21:37:57 LOL... ain't nothing like a little sheep-dip on da shoes huh?
