Finished Kick Panels

Alrighty, been taking my sweet sweet time on my build so far (for a number of different reasons) and I managed to finally get my kick panels done.

These are for my 02 Toyota Tacoma and utilize the stock kick panels as a base. Once I got the shape I wanted, I reinforced the back with a layer of glass then sanded the front using 60grit, 180 grit, 220 grit then primered with automotive primer. I gave it 4 good solid coats of primer then wet-sanded it with 220 and 400 grit sand paper then used SEM Satin Black Color Coat Plastic- Vinyl Paint to give it the look you see now.

Enjoy and if you have any questions or comments let me know.

Nice work Jason... dang, you are getting better at each pass on this glassing thang. How many hours does it take to get there from ground Zero?

Oh, knowing you're a big guy, will these hinder getting in and out of the truck with big boots on? I've heard some guys make that issue and in a smaller sedan with a clutch pedal, it might well be true?

Thanks!

Hard to really say how many hrs I took working on it since I've been working on everything together in bits at a time but It was a nice little project because I had a couple set backs with the glass being to thin in a couple locations.

I've already tested having them in the truck prior to the finish work and its not an issue with me at all. They look great and should sound great. Once everything else is installed I'll post some pictures.

Can you "guesstimate" the approximate airspace each MB driver is residing in? I doubt this is something one can do mathmatically w/o a lot of cross-sectioning of the inner space, but adding small particals of what??? (Popcorn that's not been popped?) and then empty it out into a container and measure the volume displaced would be a pretty accurate measuring method.

Oh, what speakers are you using here? Are these MBQ's? Nice finished look on the woofer cones and looks like a very high quality driver here.

If I had to guess, I'd say their getting around .16-.25^ft to work with. Once verything is hooked up I'm going to put some poly fill stuffing behind them.

The speakers I'm using are 1 pair of Diamond Audio 5.25" D6 Components for the kick panels (tweet going in stock location in the door) and a pair of Diamond Audio 6.5" D6 Components in the rear panels next to the subwoofer. Since I bought the D6s I have absolutely loved their sound. I'm running them with the Silk Tweets and their clarity is amazing.

I just bought a new amplifier to run my components, a very nice Tru Technology T4.100 (seen here http://www.bladeice.co.uk/truampt.htm ) The amplifier is no longer in production but is in perfect condition so looking forward to hooking it up. Its 100watts RMS x 4 and their underrated so most likely going around 140-150watts RMS. My deck is a Eclipse CD8445 and has 8v preouts for the amplifiers.

Niiiiiiice work there 30! That is gorgeous! Also loving the speaker choice, Diamond probably became my favorite brand after the first time I heard them.

You know, it was an old faq post I read in a google post between you two talikng about fiberglass in a truck that first brought me to CK. I really haven't checked out many other sites, because so far I have found them all to vacuumate heavily.

Keep up the great work man!

Yah I'm very pleased with how they turned out. Now if the rest turns out as good I'll be very happy haha.

I've been doing fiberglass for quite some time now. How long ago was the old post your speaking of? Back on my prior forum name (P0werLifter) I did a full FB install in my 95 Chevy and had a work long posted on here, and fairly recent (Around February) I had started at work log for my 02 Toyota with this forum name.

Glad to hear that someone saw post and was drawn to the forum for more knowledge. If you have any questions about glassing or anything please let me know. I'm always here to help, If I dont get back to you right away its because I'm very busy but I usually respond quickly.

yeah, it waas back when you were screening under POwerLifter. I justr have a good memory, and remember that you couldn't log in under your old name or something.

You were working on the 95 Chevy at the time, nad I was looking for advise on a midbass crossover situation, and your log is what came up like 5th on my google search. I figured with all the trouble I had been having finding any solid info, that I might as well stop by and ask a few......
