as i said in my very first post, i still need this info, if anyone can help!!!! the Cerwin Vega's i have are the Old Vega Series that came out in the late 90's i believe the model number is Cerwin Vega 124, probley the same as the 12d4, for dual 4 ohm voice coil. i need to know the ported box specs, how many cubic feet per chamber!!! suprisingly i called cerwin, and they keep giving me the newer version of the sub not the older one, so i dont know, and they only give me the specs for a sealed box!!!! anyone please help. thanks Replies (1) swez on 04/10/2007 17:12:36 I looked this up w/o success too. You may have to wing it and build a test box to see what works best for this sub series and adjust as needed until you get it right. If it were me, I'd start off with a basic box of 2.0 - 2.25 cf/sub and calculate the port based on that. Then, if the box sounds boomy or cone gets very sloppy, start adding cuts boards to the inside of the box to reduce the internal airspace until you get things sounding best. Make note of the cf of fill boards used and then resize the box accordingly. Yes, this is the long way around the block, but if you are patient and pay attention to the details, you'll home in on the parameters and wind up with a great performing box. Tech Tip: Test your sub at about 50% of max RMS power the sub is rated for. Listen and watch the cone movments carefully as this will tell you what to do next. Specifically, look for wild cone excursion and a distinctive "Braaap" sound or metallic pings and thuds. If you hear any of these noises at low power, the sub is reaching max excursion too soon and the box is too large to control the cone. Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
