im trying to figure out as much as i can on batteries now. here is what i need to know, say i buy a aftermarket battery terminal, that connects to the positive part on the battery and there are 2 4gauge outputs, of course one is for my amp the other one is that for the orginal wire going to the battery? so i cut off the ring attached to the orginal wire for the battery and just stick it in this battery terminal. i hope this make sense on what i am trying to say. here is a link of the terminal i was looking at...

http://cgi.ebay.com/STINGER-SXBT-CAR-AUDIO-EXPERT-SERIES-BATTERY-TERMINAL_W0QQitemZ140103793920QQihZ004QQcategoryZ50549QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

you will see two outputs obivously one for the amp, is the other for the orignal battery wire that i must cut and put in there??? thanks

Wlee, you dont dust "stick it" in there, there is usually allen keys that come with terminals for clamping the wire down. You would need to cut the original connector for the car.

This is one expensive terminal, and i would look a little cheaper sisnce you aren't connecting 0 Gauge wire. Do you have Walmart's in your area? They offer a Schoche branded terminal for $7.99, and it had two 4 guage and two 8 guage inputs.

This one will work fine. You will need one for each battery terminal. (Pos & Neg) Note they have the standard post, a 1/0 port, a #8 port and a screw cap tap on each and much cheaper than Stinger too.

I have used several Knu... products for installs and find them of very high quality and a fair price too. Shipping is often 2-3 day tops.

Shootah, I have been getting more oxidation on my battery terminals since I hooked up my sound system. I just noticed that the bolt thru my neg. strap was welded to the steel strap (not the mallable lead type) so last Sunday I picked one of those pretty, shiney Scoshe units. I removed the old terminal and prepped the 2 wires, inserted them int the Scoshe terminal with a little Nolox in all the right places, then began tightening the set screw which holds the terminal to the post...The set screw just kept turning and turning. When I bought this thing I thought it was a solid piece and not just a shiney shell....well the pot metal tab that the set screw forces closed to tighten the thing up was broken off..pretty as you please.

I went to the Tractor Supply store and bought a good quality conventional connector and got back in business...Monday I went to the car audio shop and found a solidly constructed piece by Stinger...for 22 bucks or so and now have to install it.....It isnt any better than the Tractor store model but is more versitle and I bought it for the Bling effect.lol
Wally World had the same Scoshe LOC that I had ordered from Crutch a couple of months ago and a bunch of 8 ga. wiring kits with 1/2 Farad caps with them. I thought that was kind of a joke. I had no idea Wal-Mart had that stuff untill a few weeks ago...I try not to go there....I am going to take that Scoshe batery terminal back..just for the principal of the matter.
PS I did have the neg. bushing in the thing
PSS is it possible to get more battery terminal gunk build up because of adding more load on the battery?

Personally, my battery teminalsd have always corroded more by adding amps and the like. My Schosche terminal worked fine, but it took me a minute to realize the negatime post adapter was already in there. You may have left this in, which would explain why you couldnt tighten it down. It tightened down without a hitch, and I am using 3 of the four outputs already, and used the terminal adaptor to screw down my stiock vehicle power wire. It worked beautifuly.

Maybe there was some quality control issues with your unit, or it was a used repackaged one. My brother and I have taken plenty of repackaged stuff back to Wally world for several reasons, and sometimes they just reshelve it if it still looks ok. My brother bought Sylvania bulbs for his bimmer, put the old stock ones back in the package, and took it all back for a refund. They issued said refund, and a week later I was in Wally world for a few install parts, and bam, there was his stock bulbs for sale on the shelf.

I bought a noise filter for a vrappy amp I tried to install, but the amp was the problem. I took back the noise filter, issued an excuse, they issued a gift card. When I went to buy my battery terminal, boom there was my noise filter.

I only go to Walmart for install parts, and would never consider buying anything else audiowise from them. But for stuff like speaker wire and connectors, they are the cheapest and most convient place to buy from. We have 4 big box stores in town, and they will eitheir charge you an arm and leg, or they just give it to you for free. I have copped about 5 fuses from Cartoys because they don't have what I want to buy in stock.

Shoota, yea I left the neg adapter in because I used it on the negative post. That is the post that the bolt welded itself to the terminal strap.

This part had not been out of the pack and was definitly defective. There was only atiny bit of resistancethen the set screw was turned in spinning the hex key between my thumb and forefinger. The pot metal casting was paper thin there.

When I return this thing, they will not resell it, I put it in the pack upside down and left the anti oxidizing goop all over the inside.

So I wonder if more terminal corrosion is common when you put mor demand on the battery. Im thinking of trying something different with my wiring this weekend.

Oh Shoot... this is old man conscience speaking to you.... it's bad form to take back stuff that is not in usable or new condition. Suppose you spent the time, went there to buy something and someone else pulled the ol switch-a-roo and you got stuck???

If defective, make sure they don't get the whole packaging kit back only the receipt and defective merchandise. Be honest and you will be rewarded many times over for it.

Just a little info for the kids that think placing old merchandise back in a new packaging and returning it is an ok thing to do. This also applies to any form of theft including fraud.

I have worked in Security for the past five years and have come across many different things in my time. This type of behavior is ILLEGAL. I have arrested numerous individuals who have tried to conduct this type of activity and guess what, they get prosecuted for the full extent of the law. This type of activity is a form of Fraud and in the industry we will watch you, build a large case and the next attempt at this you get arrested.

I have taken cases in the past that the individual returned an old used item maybe 3 times and once apprehended you get a nice fine of at LEAST about $800. Why you ask? In the legal world we have a right to charge you not only for the merchandise that you are trying to return, but for the time it has taken me, the employee, to build a case, investigate, conduct surveillance and apprehend. Not only that, but legal charges a hefty amount and we tack on more money as a form of punishment for your actions.

Just a quick example, we apprehended an individual trying to steal a pack of $10 socks. Know how much his bill was? $1000. The money is a big inconvenience but that arrest will go on your record and when your trying to find a job and they find (after doing the background checks) that you have a theft/fraud charge on your record, 99% of the time your not going to get hired.

Is that little bit of cash in your pocket worth all the consequences? I think not

Just something to think about.
