Okay my question is very simple. Why is it that in the United States the audio world is so expansive? When i say this is because I owend a store and back home I could easily buy a simple 1200 wattz amps for as much as $120. I came to the US about 4 years ago and all I have seen for example; 2 channel= 300 wattz for $500 "WTH" Seriously I just think most people dont know and they just sell you things at a really high price just because it has a kewl name on it but mostly they dont know what their sellign nor whats better out there. Any comments. Replies (11) MrBrownstone on 04/5/2007 14:45:19 I think you are comparing apples to elephants by simply addressing amplifiers, power ratings and price without brands. In the audio market there are 3 types of companies: 1. Those that meet their ratings 2. Those that exceed their ratings 3. Those that inflate their ratings, and can't meet their marketing fluff. If you are comparing the cost of the same brand & model of audio equipment from 1 store to another, then we have something to talk about. Any company that promotes an amplifier putting out 1200watts for under $200 is category #3. trunkisloud on 04/5/2007 15:25:26 yea word up on that mr. b.......you gotta know your brands and what theyre capable of doing.....then you will know if the juice is worth the squeeze.......... swez on 04/5/2007 15:32:26 Actually, the market in the US is shrinking and many big name players have been bought out or absorbed by larger companies. The price of many quality amps have also dropped notably in the past few years due to low demand and lots of products in the market. Basically, it's Marketing 101 stuff here. When supply is high and demand is low, the prices come down or visa-versa. The other factor going on here is profit. In order to stay in business, meet the bills, pay employees and taxes, we have to buy low and sell at a decent profit. It's not uncommon fro a merchant to buy an item in large quantities to get a low price. (Say $100.00/unit x 20 units) He will then sell them at 30-100% markup of higher if he can get that rate. This is how Capitalism works and why some get rich while others go broke and get out of the business. Quickie English lesson: 1. Expansive: expanding, growing larger, exceeding growth 2. Expensive: costly, high value due to quality or limited availablibity If you think car audio is expensive, don't even think about investment grade fly fishing gear. That's one of my hobbies and dang... the price of a quality brand rod and reel will make ones wallet slim at the click of a mouse. LOL Swez A.K.A. Old Man Audio jamesp on 04/5/2007 16:53:52 Swez, you hit that nail on the head. 1 Sage salt water series rod w/ Billy Pate reel + a spare spool and the 2 lines and micron backing = more than all the audio in my truck! My box of saltwater flies tied by Greg Meheve ( now deceased) = a Billy Pate Bonefish reel ++ HPRacing on 04/5/2007 17:05:39 Well back home at my store and dont take it wrong liek Puerto Rico is poor or anything, we work with US money and all. All I know is back at my store I would easily sell you 1- 1600 2channel poweracoustic for $145.95 1- 800 4 channel lancer for $110.00 2- Hollywood 12 inch's (dont remember the model, just that they where the expansive ones) and they only ran for $55.95 each 1- capacitor 2.0 for $95 1- kit 4 gauge for $25 And I used to charge for a complete install only $125, unlike some big stores I have gone to that they even charge an hour....... trunkisloud on 04/5/2007 19:22:48 thats similar pricing compared to the u.s, cplkittle on 04/5/2007 19:48:13 Those are all below average products. If you want quality you will pay $1.00-$1.50 per watt. I have seen tube amplifiers rated at 13watts X 2 channels that sell for over $1,000. I heard that Tweeter is closing a ton of their stores, and Circuit City and Best Buy are firing 20-25% of their employees. The only Tweeter in Chattanooga is closing in 6 weeks. Fry's electronics is going out of business also. jamesp on 04/5/2007 19:51:44 Power Acoustic 1600 2 channel 120.00 USD http://www.dealtime.com/xPO-Power-Acoustik-Gothic-OV2-1600 swez on 04/5/2007 20:04:23 Have heard may wonderful things about PR there HPR. It's a tropical paradise to many and the bigger cities are very up to date. But ljust like the OUTBACK reaches in PR, the USA has many poor folk who did not get the chance to see life in a big city, gain a solid education or have the opportunity to see how much technology has progressed in the past 25 years. We have many folks in the south, north and all parts in between that cannot understand the language of the land either. They are not dumb, but they are stuck in a backward world and don't know what's really out there. (Lack of opportunity) We have deals to be had as well. But one has to dig a bit harder to find them. Sure, there's the low end gear that is cheap and less than a good value here too. However, if we take the time to look and dig deeper, there's good fruit at the top of the tree. It just takes more effort to get at it. With time, you'll find them and be pleasantly surprized that it's out there... if we know where to look. Swez trunkisloud on 04/5/2007 21:42:40 what are you sayin cpkittle.??? are you serious about those stores closing? cplkittle on 04/5/2007 21:51:00 that is what I heard.
