ok here is the problem i have a Phoenix gold tantrum series 500.2 amplifier. worked great in my old car a 1993 ford probe i recently got a 2003 ford ranger. well i installed the same deck i had into the truck ran all the wires for the amp but the damn amp just wont turn on. i checked all the basics with a volt tester i tested the power to the amp its getting 12 volts i tested the remote on wire its getting 10 volts when the stereo is on. but yet the amp light doesnt come one and no sound out of the speakers... also i have 2 rca inputs and 2 rc outputs i thought i maybe had them in the wrong rca jacks when i put them in the output one the amp light comes on still no sound though... any ideas... could the amp or input rca jack just be bad? well i'm up for any sugestions Replies (3) baine on 08/15/2003 06:14:44 Ok this is prob a dumb Idea but here goes... Did you check your ground wire, It may not be getting a good contact. Next did you check your amp fuses could be blown. Check your inline fuse next to the batt (I was getting nuff power to put the amp in to protect mode not nuff to turn it on ) I think thats all I can think of. uochronos on 08/15/2003 15:59:26 not a dumb idea at all but i already checked all those all my fuses are good. and i checked myground and power wire with a volt metter and i'm getting 12 volt with the car off and 14 with it on so it is grounded and powered fine. and the remote turn on from the stereo is getting like 10 volts when the stereo turns on... as far as i can tell all the power wires work fine Swez on 08/15/2003 17:00:13 Try disconnecting the REM feed from the amp for moment, then run a jumper between main hot lug on amp to REM and see if the amp fires up this way. Just be sure to remove the main fuse at battery before you do the jumper thing. Then reconnect the fuse and see what happens. If the amp fires up and you have full operation, something wrong in REM feed circuit. If amp does not fire up, something may have gone south in the amp. Dumb (but obvious) question... do you have good wire connections from amp to subs? If shorted subs, amp may not play as it detects a short. Finally, did you run a separate ground from HU to a body ground (bare metal) when you reinstalled the HU? This may explain the low REM volts as harness grounds are not always adequate for newer aftermarket HU's. Swez PS A good ground is always a bare metal ground to frame, floor pan or similar.
