| Turning on the ampby bboypeteyt Front Page * FAQ Forum * Archive Index Prev :: NextHey, I just installed 2 lightning audio subs with a lightning audio amp. I got all the connections in but for some reason it seems like the amp is not turning on. I know I have power goin back there because I accidently burshed the power wire against the ground and I got a spark. I checked the blue rem wire and it looks fine to me. Anybody got any thoughts on whats wrong? Thanks Replies (3) Swez on 03/29/2003 14:51:14 It seems the amp is not turning on? Well, check your fuses and be sure you have the amp well grounded to bare metal. Also, the REM wire must have power on it (when the HU is switched on) or the amp will not turn on. If you are not sure the REM wire is providing power, disconnect it from amp, use a 12 volt test lamp to see if you have power between lead and ground. If the light is on when you turn on the HU, that circuit is good. Cap it for now and perform the next test. DO NOT ALLOW REM LEAD TO SHORT TO GROUND !!! If it shorts, will blow the HU power transistor for REM and you'll have no REM. If the REM line does not light the tester, you may have a problem up stream. Could be a poor wire connection at HU, HU is not properly grounded (Aftermarket HU's should be grounded to body metal... not a harness ground) or the REM circuit in the HU has failed. Will have to install a manual line here, if this is the case. To check the amp, with the REM wire removed, run a small jumper wire from the main power feed on amp, to your REM lug. If the amp fires up, you know you have a good amp, but problems with your REM supply feed line. When installing this temporary jumper, make sure you pull the main amp fuse near the battery. Do your jumper (no power) and then reinstall the fuse. This will avoid accidental shorts and having to install a new fuse. If the amp still fails to power up with jumper in place, CHECK THAT GROUND!!! Id the ground is good and secure to bare metal od body pan, something wrong with amp. Try these first and see what you get. Give us a heads up on your findings OK? Swez bboypeteyt on 03/30/2003 09:13:27 Thanks swez, That stuff helped me alot. What it came down to is I connected the REM wire to the wrong wire on the HU. I have a CDM-7874 Alpine HU and there is a blue wire and a blue wire with a white stripe on it. At first I connected the REM wire to the solid blue wire. But I found out that I had to connect it to the blue wire with the white stripe. Everything is working good now. Thanks for your help. ttocs on 03/30/2003 13:09:53 the solid blue is for the power antenna. It would have +12v on it when the radio was on, but not the cd.,.. |
