and do you think a custom box for 4 12s be able to be built to fit in a 2000 chevy impala?

The Thunder series subs arent too bad, but for the price, better subs could probablt be found. My neibhor runs a pair of 7500's and they hit pretty ggood, but all of the cheapest wiring possible was used so it could be better.

Both of those Hifonics are good amps for the price, and either one would be a good choice for 4 of those subs. The Bxi1606 would offer a lot more clean power for headroom, but would have to be used carefully to avoid damaging the subs.

Whether you went with sealed or ported, should be about enough trunk room, but actually fitting a quad 12" box through the opening of the trunk may be an issue. A review of the 2002 Impala states trunk space at 18.1 ft3, but doesn't offer actual dimensions of the trunk opening. The MTX's call for 1.75 Ft3 ported and 1.25 sealed, calling for a total of 7 and 5 cubic feet for 4 ported or 4 sealed respectively. Plus with all of the MDF thickneww involved (if said material is used) this will be a pretty large box to fit in a trunk opening. You may need to build it in halves to get it in.

Drew, what are the fuse ratings on the Hifonics?

5 cubes is definately not gonna fit in that trunk opening. I barely squeezed it in the trunk of my 91 caprice when i was runnin the p3's.and it was a tank! might have to slim down to maybe 3 subs.

You could still build the box in halves, and then attach the halves. I also believe that model Impala has fold down seats, which may also help in the finagaling in of some bass. And by building the box in halves, you would only have to fit in about 4 cubes for ported and 2.75 in for sealed. Should't be too much of a problem

it was an idea for the 4 mtx but i think im going to get either two soundstream references 12's or the t-5 12's not sure yet, plus the local soundstream dealer gives me the sale price on everything so i end up getting pretty good deals on soundstream and fosgate products

i had two of the t-4 models which are the older version of t-5 but both voice coils on both subs are open and i have no idea on how it happened which sucked becaues those subs where awesome and sounded great

4 subs in a trunk can be done. I would throw out any notion of building a ported box though.

4 subs in a sealed box would be tremendously loud with accuracy to boot. You have to keep in mind though that if they are all in the same box, and all facing the same direction, the side the speakers mount to will be at least 14"x52" (that would be about a quarter inch space all around each speaker).

If 4 is too much, 3 is a nice setup as well.

I think a pair of better subs would be the better bet here. I have heard older Soundstream amps were the **** in the day, but I have never heard anything from soundstream, so I have no real opinion of my own.

im probably not going to use a soundstream amp but the soundstream subs were good to me i just pushed them too hard when they were underpowered, but im still having trouble deciding between 2 soundstream reference 12's for sq or 2 soundstream t-5 12's for spl???

OK I feel you. I guess that all boils down to a matter of preference there.
