hey folks..been a while since i been on here. so a question is in order. i have 2 pioneer ts 306 12"s. dvc4ohms in a 3 cft ported box tuned at 30. im lookin for an amp that would push these well and cost 150 or less....any suggestions? Replies (44) newB on 03/23/2007 18:49:55 whats the RMS rating on the sub? i would think something allong the lines of the Hifonics Bxi606 thats 600RMS at 1 ohm. but im not sure of their RMS -Drew trunkisloud on 03/23/2007 19:28:37 400 rms cplkittle on 03/23/2007 20:06:37 These subs are 400w RMS, and 1000w peak. With 2 dual 4ohm subs, you are looking at wiring configurations of 1ohm, 4ohm, and 16ohm. or 2x 2ohms. I would recommend a class D mono somewhere around 800w RMS that is 1 ohm stable. My favorite would be the Diamond D3 800.1. Do you have a budget for this? trunkisloud on 03/23/2007 21:43:50 not sure about the price of the diamond.....was lookin in the autotek dept at a mean machine.... cplkittle on 03/23/2007 23:05:12 the diamond amp goes for about $225 on ebay. trunkisloud on 03/23/2007 23:18:23 ill take a look at it..may be an option...was lookin at the Autotek MM1400.1D newB on 03/24/2007 01:48:34 yeah that hifonics would be just a tad small. diamond would sound good 2, EBAY -Drew ShootuhMcBustaCap on 03/24/2007 05:46:06 Taken from Ebay listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/AUTOTEK-MM1400-1D-CLASS-D-1400W-SUB-AMPLIFIER-NEW-AMP_W0QQitemZ250096650410QQcategoryZ18797QQcmdZViewItem MM 1400.1D 1400-Watts RMS x 1 Fidelity Exceeds Conventional D-Class Amp Designs 1-Ohm Impedance Stability Less Energy / Current Needed From Vehicle Battery Less Heat Compared to Other D-Class Amplifiers A/B Class Amplifier Audio Quality High Damping Factor For Improved Bass Impact This sounds like a too good to be true amp to me, especially looking at the price to wattage ratio. Also, Class A/B amps usually require more current draw as compared to Class D amp, but this one says it requires less current draw and makes less heat than a class D, I could be wrong but I don't see this as realistic. Also, it says it offers 1400 watts and 1 ohm stability, but it does not have ratings in the listing do show what wattage it makes at what different ohmage. This package really looks like a well baited consumer hook to me. Do some more research before biting this worm. The Diamond offers everything this offers except the surely exxagerated wattage rating, costs less, and would be a better match for the pair of subs you have I'm sure. A good way to tell realistically how much power an amp can make is by fuse size, and unfortunatly, this website offers no picture of fusing, or rating, but judging by the color of the single blade fuse in the side of the AutoTek I think this is a 40-60 amp fuse. If I remember correctly, the Diamond uses 60 amps of fusing. A very nice amp...less money....... http://cgi.ebay.com/DIAMOND-AUDIO-D3-800-1-MONO-AMPLIFIER-800W-NEW-D3800-1_W0QQitemZ250097061624QQcategoryZ18797QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem trunkisloud on 03/24/2007 07:15:08 . the autotek is sportin 2 fuses. this link claims a rating of 160 amps. http://www.caraudiomag.com/testreports/0610_cae_autotek_1400_1d_amplifier/ this is a class d amp as the link states. the internals are well made and as far as ive seen autotek is a great company.i found this amp for $244 but i will still look into diamond and a few othe options. before i make a decision. also found a this amp ..its a soundstream...i know they made decent amps back in the day but not sure of the quality now.http://cgi.ebay.com/SOUNDSTREAM-EGA1400D-DIGITALCLASS-EDGE-SERIES-AMP_W0QQitemZ330102266749QQcategoryZ18797QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem jamesp on 03/24/2007 15:06:30 The Autotek line is distributed by Maxxsonic. They are the Hifonics, MB Quart and Crunch. I cant find a CEA 2006 compliant cert but it may be. Probably not a bad choice if the power fits your needs and you are on a budget. cplkittle on 03/24/2007 15:21:18 Some of the soundstream stuff is still worth the money. Their low line incorporates boards that are used by boss, pyle, and a few other less popular manufacturers. They are not as good as they used to be, but their high lines have not gone to shi+ yet. trunkisloud on 03/24/2007 15:26:05 i found a site called ampguts.com and you can see what an amp is made of by lookin at that site.....its crazy cplkittle on 03/24/2007 20:55:30 That is a good site. It will tell you when other manufacturers share the same board. trunkisloud on 03/24/2007 21:16:06 yea i noticed where it says what other amps have the same board....i also noticed a lot of brands that ive never heard of and their stuff is pretty massive looking. may have to research a few of them just for fun....and wishful thinking. jamesp on 03/25/2007 00:39:12 Can you access ampgut .com now? I found another audio site with a lot of pics , may have been Sounddomain...but never got redirected to ampguts. Anybody know how I can access it? trunkisloud on 03/25/2007 00:50:06 http://ampguts.realmofexcursion.com/ thats the link....save it to favs...thats what i did. jamesp on 03/25/2007 02:20:47 Thanks a lot. ShootuhMcBustaCap on 03/25/2007 10:24:16 Yeah, ampguts is in my faves too. I take apart amps once in a while for myself and freinds, and it is kill to have a good example of what everything should look like. I didn't see the same pics as you I'm sure, 160 amps is definitely nothing small, CA&E reported max draw @170 amps @ 1750 watts @5% THD. Not bad ratings at all, but probably over the top for your subs and charging system And on while on the topic of brands that went to ****, Alpine has finally realased an new model CD player with 4 Volt Preouts! CLAP Go Alpine! CLAP About Time! CLAP I just can't figure out what was up with that 2.5 volt preout slump they were in. trunkisloud on 03/25/2007 12:37:32 right on...i been rollin panasonic hu....they sport 5v ShootuhMcBustaCap on 03/25/2007 12:49:01 Panasonic is some good stuff for decks too. Plus they have a couple with 31RMS internal amps, pretty stout for internal H/U amps. My homeboys lady has the one with all the cool displays, she bought for the dolphins............ jamesp on 03/25/2007 16:18:48 My Eclipse head unit says 8 volts preouts on the face plate but the manual says 5V @ 0dB/55 OHMs. I think the numbers are meaningless without specifying the resistance It has a cool display too. You can download movie clips from thier web site or make your own clips from your pics with software from thier site. I made a couple of clips with pics of my Harley driving away and one of my boat beaching on a little island near St. George Island in Florida. the clips just loop repeatedly and you can set the time frame when you use the Cutting Board software on the Eclipse web site. These features are just whistles and bells but so far I love this headunit.. You can hook up a microphone to the AUX in jack, set it up at the drivers seat or whereever, start the process, get out of the truck and the headunit generates pink noise and records parameters to a memory stick.and shows them graphically on the display Then, plug the memory stick into the computer and it sets up time alignment, sub crossover and the parametric eq. It makes 4 different eq setups for you then you can use the eq settings and change anything you want to change on the computer screen and save them all to the memory stick with names. Then you can upload from the memory stick to the headunit and save each set up on a preset button...That feature is very cool. cplkittle on 03/25/2007 16:31:46 Some of the older eclipse models (maybe new ones too) had a balanced 16v preout. The basic output voltage is measured on the interior plug of the RCA. The outside was origionally used only for a ground to better shield the signal. The balanced output of 16 volt used the outer side as an alternating data current as well. You can only use the balanced 16v preout on amplifiers that will accept it though. There are some nice line drivers on the market today that will boost the output voltage somewhere in the neighborhood of 20v. It is hard to find quality line drivers that don't introduce noise into the line as well. ShootuhMcBustaCap on 03/25/2007 23:35:11 That eclipse soundin pretty sick right thuuure. I wish my H/U had any sort of animations, but text labeling works nice trunkisloud on 03/25/2007 23:46:56 never had an eclipse...mostly pioneer or panasonic....hey anyone ever heard of audison amps? cplkittle on 03/26/2007 00:24:09 I wish I had one. audison are high end audiophile quality amplifiers. I have a diamond D7 under my bed that I bought off a customer for $300. It is waiting for a vehicle worthy of installing it in. ShootuhMcBustaCap on 03/26/2007 09:24:49 If your car ain't worthy of a D7, what exactly is? Hell of a price you got on that though. I have never heard of Audison personally. I was thinking, isn't it funny how the way IndoAudio misrepresented that Autotek amp to almost make it out to look worse. I'm not sure if the Words "indo" and audio combined would be too great a way to present good business either. LOL HAPPY jamesp on 03/26/2007 13:20:44 I have a sneaking suspicion that IndoAudio has a lot of "thier" items shipped from the manufacturer or distributor of the product. For instance, when I placed orders from Sonicelectronic, which is located within 50 miles of IndoAudio, I had the merchandise in hand on the 6th day after placing the order. The stuff I ordered from Indo: they immediatly generated a tracking number, sucked the cash from bank account via Paypal, then 7 days later, I get a ship notification from FedEx from a nearby but different city and the Kappa comps arrive 6 days later.(13 days after placing the order) It is easy to sell stuff cheap when you have 0 dollars tied up in product inventory and you have all the money in hand before the item even ships, then you take advantage of the terms the supplier offers which could be up to a 3% discount if paid in 90 days. Indo usually has poor product images ect but I did get fresh, brand new product at a killer price...so If time is not a factor...makes you wonder if those guys are smokin on an indo..drinking gin and juice ShootuhMcBustaCap on 03/26/2007 14:01:23 Yeah, just putting the word Indo in there sounds real unprofessional. Thats the kind of stuff that will make me not buy things from people. jamesp on 03/26/2007 14:51:19 The word itself doesnt have to refer to hydroponically, cultivated under roof herb. It could be the owners last name or something totally unrelated. Like the fact that many electronic products are manufactured in Indonesian countries??? cplkittle on 03/26/2007 21:51:21 it means indoor in georgia indo trunkisloud on 03/26/2007 21:52:35 i was actually thinkin of buying from sonic electronix.......so are they good to deal with? ShootuhMcBustaCap on 03/26/2007 21:56:15 That is true, but it still just seems weird. If this is how they work, they probably have a good drop shipping program with manufacturers. My stepfad tried to sell tools on the internet this way, but the dropship company was pretty much a scam. But how it was supposed to work, is you take payment, then you order from the manufacturer, and they ship it to the customer just like you said. I'll try not to get too much further O/T here, but "indo" refers to indonesia being the point of origin, not method of cultivation. I think I just listen to too much rap..LOL jamesp on 03/26/2007 22:58:32 Trunkisloud, If you buy from Sonicelectronic, try to find the item you want on thier ebay store. They dont list everything they have on thier regular online catalog in thier ebay store but if they have the item(s) that you want they are cheaper, sometimes a lot cheaper than thier regular store. I have ordered from them 3 times this year and all 3 orders were at my door on the 6th day after placing the order..From California to Georgia...not bad..I got a brand new, unopened Rockford Fosgate 6001bd mono amp with a birth sheet showing 797 watts @ 2 Ohms in January from thier ebay store for 177 bucks+ shipping the mfg date of the amp was 11/06 and an Alpine 12" type R for 99 + shipping..It is a sweet combo and SQ is great and the amp doesnt even get warm pushing the sub..Sonic has an impressive feedback score and I even got good advice from the tech/rep on the phone. trunkisloud on 03/26/2007 23:35:42 i am a big fan of the type r. i had two of the older models in 3cft tuned at 30 hz with a bazooka el1500 on each one..thats right an amp per speaker in an olds delta 88 and it was almost unbearable....i considered getting 2 of the newer style type r's since i found them for $85 each plus shipping. and speakin of those amps...anyone know where i can score a couple of them for less than a bill each?? ShootuhMcBustaCap on 03/27/2007 00:35:05 What year was your Delta 88? I used to have an 84! I miss that old boat. trunkisloud on 03/27/2007 00:36:46 mine was an 88 .........along with the hyundai i have a 86 lesabre jamesp on 03/27/2007 01:32:06 I have my Alpine R in a sealed box. It is 1 ft³ and shimmed with some luan boards to about .79 ft³ and it is amazing how much sound it will generate with about 600 watts of clean power from the RF 6001bd. It will make your ears itch. My front stage is a set of Infinity Kappa 6x8 compnenets at 2 Ohms with Rockford 6x8 dual tweeter componets in the back at 4 Ohms powered by a Rockford 450.4. This is the first aftermaket amplified system I have ever had and I am very pleased with it. This all started out back in December because I blew a stock front speaker and ordered a set of speakers from Crutchfield to replace them...Then I ordered a new set of rear speakers and a little powered sub setup since the fronts sounded so much better. then I replaced the new fronts w/ the RF comps..blah...blah .. you know how it works.. ShootuhMcBustaCap on 03/27/2007 09:24:50 Boat cars are cool, except I am more than happy not having a V-8 the way gas prices are now. nothing like a car that can fit 4 people in the front, and 3 and a pair of ported 10's in the backseat. My first system was in my Delta 88. I like the Type R, but have only ever heard it in demo rooms. I am a big fan of Alpine, and have worked with a few Type-E's, and find them to be great subs, especially for the price. Funny how addicting car audio is, huh James? jamesp on 03/28/2007 07:57:58 It seems like everything that I get into has addictive properties. I always set the hook pretty deep in myself and tend to go overboard with my hobbies, whether its fishing, boats or Harley Davidsons. I have just begun to explore car audio and so far have have been pretty conservative...time will tell. lol. ShootuhMcBustaCap on 03/28/2007 08:55:47 Feel you there man....... ShootuhMcBustaCap on 03/28/2007 08:55:48 Feel you there man....... cplkittle on 03/29/2007 00:41:58 Hey James, how 'bout a fishing boat powered by a couple of harley engines with a killer stereo system.. bring all your hobbies together! ShootuhMcBustaCap on 03/29/2007 04:24:10 YES!! I WANT ONE!!! trunkisloud on 03/29/2007 18:46:01 hey ikesound has this amp for $109 Directed Audio 750d Refurbished Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
