I was wondering if anybody could help me with an install on a 1996 Ford Explorer XLT with the factory amplifier in the rear. I Can't seem to get the right bypass harness. I have looked on the net and went to all local stores and everyone of them are the same. The only problem with the whole thing is that the factory connectors that plug into the amplifer are different from the ones on the actual bypass harness. I could hard wire everything from the cd player but the person I'm doing this for wants everything to stay stock plus it wouldn't hurt not to have to work so hard rewiring everything. Help please.

I can't remember right off the bat which bypass harness you need. What does it look like?

Ttocs? UK?
I was never that good at memorizing which vehicles used which harnesses.

This may help a little

On the best kits website the BHA5515 is the kit that everyone keeps selling me but the small black harness at the end of the wires has only two interlocking clips on it and the factory harness in the truck is slightly bigger with more interlocking clips on the top of it.

you want a ford integration/bypass hrns don't ya? It should have 3 hrns's in it. One will be a small black square hrns, the other will be a larger 8 pin hrns that has all the power wires in it. Both of these hrns's wire up to your deck. The 3rd hrns will actually have 2 ends on it. You need to remove the trim around the back window on the passenger side to expose the amp. All you do then is unplug the 2 hrns's that go to the amp and plug in the one you have. The best bet for matching them up would be to pull the deck and amp out of the car and take them to a shop to match them up.....

Well it's interesting that you say three harness cause I only have been able to find one with two. Where could I find our see a picture of this harness? Also my amp is pretty easy to get to cause it's on the driver side in the jack pod. My only problem is the harness and that can probably be solved by find that harness with 3 ends on it.

Hoova, go to sonicelectric's web site and look at the pic of thier harness by American International model # FMK 550. It is a 3 pc. I used it on my 97 F-150 with factory amp. My amp was under the head unit and I bypassed it an got the speaker wires from the dash so I only used 2 of the 3 pieces. They have a similar unit with 17' of wire to do something with the remote amps in the SUV's I have a wiring connector diagram also I could email it to you. It took me a month to get a correct wiring diagram with pics of the proper connectors. Let me know your address if you want it. JamesP

the hrns doesn't have 3 ends, there are 3 different hrns's in the bypass kit. One hrns has 2 ends on it to allow it to plug into both hrns's that plug into the amp. The other 2 hrns will need to be wired into the decks hrns, but that is as easy as connecting yellow to yellow, red to red, ect........

James I got the email thanks. I also went and looked at that harness and it's still not the one either. I don't know why but I think
my only problem here is the connectors. I just cant find a connector to match the one that is in the truck. I might have to actually go to ford but I know they are gonna try and break the bank.
