New to the forum....i have an 1987 pontiac grand prix...i am in the process of fully glassing the dashboard, center console, door panels, and hole trunk....I am looking to purchse some speaker rings so i can have a perfect cut out for my subs to go through...am looking for the 15 inch rings...if anyone can help me i would be appreciative....and also if anyone can tell me some good products to use to deaden the speaker box...i have heard of polyfill but i dont no were to get this from...all help is useful Replies (16) swez on 03/2/2007 23:25:53 Anyone with a good router and a Jasper circle cutter can make custom rings from any wood you want, to your exact specifications. Polyfill can be had at Wal-Mart for lo-lo. It comes in sheets or loose good. Depending the the enclosure and subs used, figure about 1.5 lbs per sub chamber or 1.5 - 2.0" thick. (Top/Bot, Back and maybe sides too) Swez PS Welcome to CK... we are a PG site and like the professionalism that goes on here... Yea, we do rant at times, but it's all good. 30Hertz on 03/2/2007 23:29:55 I have a plunge router with a jasper circle jig, if u pay for material, my time and shipping I can cut some for ya. Just make sure you give me the correct inside diameter, and outside diameter. How many are u looking for? Shipping might pose a problem since it would be possible for the rings to get smashed during the process. stopshootn1 on 03/2/2007 23:37:36 i guess i only need one...i just need it for a template for other jobs that i might do in the future..... stopshootn1 on 03/2/2007 23:39:23 and for swez...is polyfill the fabric.....because what i have been told it comes in a powder form and needs to be mixed...the name on the bag is aerosil or something like that....but if that polyfill works i am all for it 30Hertz on 03/2/2007 23:47:46 Why not draw a perfect circle and cut one out with a jig saw? Makes more sense to me. Polyfill is a fabric...like a stuffing. Not a powder from what ive seen. Aerosil is more of a silica powder used for thickening fiberglass resin to more of a bondo body filler consistency stopshootn1 on 03/2/2007 23:51:33 Now see i think that is what i am looking for....i learned how to fiberglass from the how to videos i bought off of ebay and the guy used aerosil to deaden the box and it was rock hard....but what do you think i should use....either easy or hard will work for me... swez on 03/3/2007 00:14:24 Since the enclosure is mostly fiberglass, you can still use polyfill sheets. All you need is a spray adhesive like 3M's "Super 77". Follow directions on the can. One can is often enough and sticks like a banshee. Swez stopshootn1 on 03/3/2007 00:17:00 thank you for the help sir 30Hertz on 03/3/2007 13:42:13 Swez, I have never heard of polyfill sheets before. Is that more of a filler like the bag stuffing or a reinforcing material. I have a pretty fair amount of experience using fiberglass. I have used the silica based filler used to mix with the glass and it works pretty darn good for filling in corners and around the subwoofer ring but gets rather expensive to coat the inside of the enclosure due to the fact that the resin is thicker and doesnt go as far. Now I just use fiberglass chop mat on the inside or outside of the enclosure. Usually 3-4 layers of mat is enough to make it solid as a rock. For example, the enclosure I just fabricated for my CDT SQ12 was fiberglass, I added 4 layers of chop mat on the inside and I can now stand and jump on the thing without it flexing at all, and I'm 6'4 300lbs. -30 swez on 03/3/2007 14:04:01 30 Hz, The sheet goods variety comes on a roll like most fabrics and has a fairly rough finish. It is most often used for quilts and furniture batting. Thickness varies and you may find it anywhere between 0.5 - 2.0 inches thick. (Not compressed) If you wanted to try using it as a filler fabric for glassing, it should work fine if cut into narrow strips. This material is also very porous and should accept resin/hardener well, but drying time will be longer due to thickness and the amount of R/H it will absorb. Wal-Mart carries it as would any good fabric/sewing store and not very expensive either. It would probably be best used in areas not seen, like the inside of an enclosure or kick panel. Swez stopshootn1 on 03/3/2007 22:32:48 now theinformation that i am getting right now is for the inside of the box to harden correct...because i have already finished the outside jamesp on 03/4/2007 15:04:39 Stopshootn1, when you get a chance, take some pictures and put a link to a photobucket album so we can check out your handy work. newB on 03/4/2007 16:21:58 20oz bag of polyfil at wal-mart=2.50 and poly-fil = pillows i tend to use 1lb per cuft but im a noob ;D -Drew stopshootn1 on 03/4/2007 20:57:57 I can do that but i need directions on how to set up the photobucket newB on 03/5/2007 02:02:32 www.photobucket.com "create new accout" and fill it all in -Drew jamesp on 03/5/2007 08:09:00 Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
