I am currently building a dual 12" sub enclosure for my ford probe. I would like to make a slot vented enclosure but i dont know anything about how to tune them or how big to make them. If each of my chambers would be 1.5 cubic ft could someone tell me how big to make the vents? I also plan on making the encloure slanted on either 1 or 2 sides to make it fit snug against my back seats...idk if that has nething to do with the slot vents...just thought i would let u know.. Thanks... Replies (19) swez on 02/25/2007 14:14:49 What make and model subs are you planning to use here? A hyperlink would be helpful. Swez 30Hertz on 02/25/2007 14:20:52 We can help you out, we just need a little more information. Info needed: *Make and Model of the Drivers (subs) *Power (RMS) *Dimensions (width x hight x length) available in the space you would like to use (keep in mind the trunk opening) *What is the degree of the angle at the back of the seats? *Do you want the subs facing the back of the automobile? *I'm assuming you want to build a single chambered enclosure but if you want dual chambered let us know. Slot Vented enclosures can be more labor intensive but I prefer them over regular vented. Have you ever built any ported or sealed enclosures before? If you give me the information I requested above when I get home tonight I can model out the enclosure with dimensions and port size with BassBox Pro6. Wont be till around 7pm PST though. Someone might be able to do it before hand. -PL Boarderx24 on 02/25/2007 14:40:55 Ok i have all the information you requested... The Subs are Keenwood KFC-W3010.. http://www.cardomain.com/item/KENKFCW3010 they are about 400rms. I just measured the size of the space in the back of the hatch.. Width-38in Height-16in Length- Can be as big as i need...its like 50 somethin in but the box isnt going to be that big...im not worried about covering the spare tire either so go as big as you need. The seats in my trunk are at a 15 degree angle towards the back of the car.. I do want the subs to face the back of the car.. I dont care if it is single or dual chambered..i thought i was going to make a dual chamber becuase they would perform better..but whatever will sound better...i dont care i just want a box to put these subs in.. I have not built any enclosures before but i do know how to work with wood very well and i will have a few friends helping me out with the construction...some of them have made enclosures before... Thanks alot i really appreciate the help..i just got ripped off on a pair of 10" subs a couple of weeks ago where they blew fairly quickly becuase they were really bad...now i want to be able to have an enclosure to be able to show off to my friends.. cplkittle on 02/25/2007 14:59:46 Hey, PL.. What are the differences between WinISD and Bass Box Pro? I have never used anyting except WinISD. I will figure one on ISD and we can compare the differences. I would like to compare notes and see what we can learn from them. You set the guideliness (standard inclosure size and tuning frequency, or best response determined by the sub and that will fit with the given measurements). I'll get back online around 7 PST and we'll go from there. 30Hertz on 02/25/2007 16:16:59 When I get home tonight I'll model it out and give you the demensions etc etc. Kittle, Sounds good, I'll be on around that time hopefully and we can get together and go over some of the pro's and cons of each software comparitively. I've used WinISD in the past but found some inconsistencies and lacked some of the tools that BB6P comes with. Since then BB6P has been a fairly great tool for me to use and has a number of different graphs and modeling tools for me to plot out response curves, impendance, port velocity, maximum acoustic power, amplification curves etc etc etc. Msg me on yahoo, Flex4success (lol I havent changed it since I use to lift). -PL Boarderx24 on 02/25/2007 16:38:32 Thanks alot... cplkittle on 02/25/2007 19:18:59 let's get some fine tuning information before we get started.. what kind of music do you listen to mostly? Is this a trunk or hatchback vehicle? Boarderx24 on 02/25/2007 19:21:47 Boarderx24 on 02/25/2007 19:22:37 I listen to mostly Rap and Hip Hop...alot of bass music... My car is a Hatchback... 30Hertz on 02/25/2007 21:38:23 Alright, I just got home so I'm printing out the Manual for that specific Model, I'll enter the T/S Parameters and get back in a few, on yahoo also currently cplkittle on 02/25/2007 21:48:18 I don't have yahoo IM. it crashed my last computer and increased my spam by 400%. I had to call kenwood to get the parameters. I'll have my version in a few minutes 30Hertz on 02/25/2007 21:52:43 Do you have AIM kittle? or any other type of messenger? I forgot to ask, what Hz are we lookin at to tune this to? To low will pose a problem for port length Are you supplying a full 400watts per sub, totallying 800watts RMS or how much power are we looking at here? T/S Paras ftp://inform.kenwoodusa.com/manuals/KFCW3010.pdf Boarderx24 on 02/25/2007 22:13:41 This is the amp that i have.. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_6192.html I am probably goin to buy another amp of the same kind to power the subs like 1 amp per sub... but for now that is what i have. I dont know what Hz to tune it to...thats why im asking for help building this box...i dont really know that much about the frequencies... cplkittle on 02/25/2007 22:15:16 I was playing with something around 33Hz and 4 cubic ft. I keep running into a problem with excursion jumping off the chart between 40 and 70Hz even with 500watts. Boarderx24 on 02/25/2007 22:15:19 I have AIM...if you want to message me my sn is Str1ngbend3r cplkittle on 02/25/2007 22:27:07 ok, I am downloading yahoo messenger. I'll give it another try 30Hertz on 02/25/2007 22:30:22 Alright, Just going off some hunches here, I gave us about 3^ft common chambered enclosure since we are using two subs that are around 1.5^ft each. Enclosure Dims: (Regtangle) 13"H x 38"W x 16D Gross ^ft= 3.5 Net ^ft= 3.1 Port Dimensions for the 3^ft enclosure after displacements are as follows: 35hz = 11.5"H x 2"W x 13.8"L 40hz = 11.5"H x 2"W x 9.7"L The Red Line represents 40hz tuning frequency. The Green Line represents 35hz tuning frequency. Your Looking at http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y287/SubSonicVibez/Kenwood.jpg And with Cabin Gains starting around 50hz your looking at http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y287/SubSonicVibez/Ken2.jpg We can fine tune this more. I'm a little leery about the vent velocity but you probably wont run the risk of any port noise. I'll take the graphs down in a bit cplkittle on 02/25/2007 22:50:16 I went with 4 cubic ft and 33 Hz. External dimension. top 18" deep x 36" wide bottom 21.75 deep x 36" wide front 14" tall x 36" wide back 14.5" tall x 36" wide Port 12" tall x 2.5" wide x 14" deep Shared chamber. Internal volume calculated by using 3/4" MDF. It will take another hour to download Yahoo messenger. I may take my laptop outside and use my network card, but sitting here in my house, I have to use dialup. 30Hertz on 02/25/2007 23:01:45 Good design Kittle =) Get yahoo and we can talk more lol Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
