Well im looking at getting two focal 11" subs for my hatchback ford probe. Im looking at getting either these: http://www.cbrstereo.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=27+V&Category_Code=FOCAL+SUBS or these: http://www.cbrstereo.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=27+K&Category_Code=FOCAL+SUBS Now im looking to get subs with good sound quality that deliver ALOT of power. I listen mostly to rock, which is partly why im not going for 12" subs. Now my question is will these subs give me the power im looking for?(im not looking to compete but i do want it very powerful.) This is important because i went to best buy and the 10" subs i heard really disappointed me, and i dont want that with these. If you dont think these subs will do it i would appreciate it if you could recommend a specific size and brand. The other part is if these focal subs are what im looking for i have no idea what amp i need to get the best performance from them. I dont know how much power the amp needs or anything about the channel, brand or anything. I put in a kenwood head unit a little while ago too, and if you have any recommendations for speakers/tweeters that would be appreciated also. Thank you so much for your help :) Replies (3) ttocs on 08/14/2003 10:18:55 I have never cranked on a set of focals yet... compvr15s on 08/15/2003 21:33:25 thezeb.com is having a blowout on some discolored cdt 2way componet set, 149 or 159 i cant quite remember but originaly 309.. this would be a very good investment. any 2 way componet is going to sound better than what you have now, will not notice thier full capabilites untill they are amped tho. also check the usacoustis page they have a 4065 and 4085 which are reasonable priced and will give good power to your front componet set and a set of rear speakers as well. thers nuttin with 12" inch subs for rock. just depends on your crossovers and which subs you have. as for sub amp check into jbl 600.1 it will run a set of subs just fine. are you lookin for quality names or quality products big difference. mostly in the price area. ya the quality names may give good quality products but can also purchase the same quality for lots less. have you thought about maybe a bandpass box in your probe, lot more efficient and will rock in your hatchback, i have heard one 10" in a mustang gt hatchback sound like 2 12"s out of a sealed trunk vehicle. if you want the focals go with them and get the jbl amp to push them and a good set of componets and maybe a seperate amp for your mids and highs and you will have a very impressive system for much less than retail if you puchase of the internet. good luck Swez on 08/16/2003 06:45:15 Have you looked at Infinity Kappa or Kappa Perfects. Come in 10's and 12's, good power handling, high SPL and very good SQ. A bit less cost than Focal, but nothing wrong with Focal products either. Nice web site product selections... but vary light on details! Waste of time tromping around at BB/CC as they carry a very limited list of brands and often very high prices to go with them. Good to listen to the gear they have... just to compare brands, but that's about all. BTW, the enclosure is the key to solid performance of any sub. Depending on the type of sound you like, box size and design are the key to the sound you'll get. Since you like Rock, there is not a lot of deep lows in most Rock music. Some of the newer bands are getting more into deep bass but few go below ~40Hz. So... a moderate sized "sealed enclosure" is both small and can deliver punchy bass or go a tad larger for more low end bass. Depends on the sub/box you choose. The JBL MONO amp BP600.1 is a nice amp. Plenty of guys have them and say they are very reliable and have plenty of reserve power too. (+600 watts RMS) Are 1 or 2 ohm stable and not super expensive off ebay and a few other web sites too. (under $250.00) I use a JBL 2 channel (300 RMS bridged) and a pair of 10's in a larger sealed box. Plenty of deep lows here... and I like Rock, Techno, R&B & Jazz too. Do you have a budget for all the stuff you want yet? Obviously the subs, amp, wire kit and a box can add up fast. Also, if you are planning on intereior speaker upgrades, the CDT CL-61-a from the zeb is an excellent choice if you can use 6.5" drivers up front. Comments?
