does anyone chat anymore?? Also, what ever became of the other car audio forum? Replies (10) swez on 02/12/2007 21:22:54 I sometimes go on Skype or Yahoo IM to chat. Have not used CK's chat forums as noone is often there. Other car audio forum? Not sure I know what that means... pls splain it Lucy. Swez cplkittle on 02/12/2007 22:35:04 There was a different version, or different layout connected to this one about a year ago. swez on 02/12/2007 23:01:05 Oh... Walt has made many changes to the site over the past few years as it's getting better as time and energy permits. If we asked for special tools, he made it happen. Frankly, after being active on this site since 1998, the changes have been many and some were minor while others were considerable. Look at the left side of this page... many of these features were not there even 18 months ago. Kinda makes one wonder what the "Wizzard of OZZ" will come up with next huh? It's all good and we can be grateful to Walt, the Golds and even the readers that have come to CK over the years. Those who have been around for more than a few years... (Mr. B, ttocs and me) have seen some of the best and worst days of CK. Be glad you were not here when CK shut down for a time. It left a big void for our readers and the old-timers. Think about all the intereting things we have learned and shared on CK. Like anything else in life, we get out of it, what we put in huh? Swez ShootuhMcBustaCap on 02/12/2007 23:51:24 I don't know if it is my computer that won't load the chat or what, but I don't use it for that reason only. Funny occurence though, as I was typing this, an Aol chatroom loaded automatically! That was weird! Must have hit some hotkey I didn't know was there. I think It would be cool to chat it up with the fellas from CK, especially the two of you, as you have provided me with the most useful info here. cplkittle on 02/12/2007 23:59:28 So let's decide on a time and place. I am usually free from 8pm to midnight EST. I don't watch much TV anymore, just get my news online and keep an eye on myspace. What is the best chat format or site? I have been out of the chat scene for quite a few years now (10-12) I liked the BBS boards back in the day where ansi graphics were the thing. ShootuhMcBustaCap on 02/13/2007 00:53:25 We could myspace it, as I have a page, but my adress is not PG freindly. Come to think of it, neither is the rest of the page! Give me an email address and I'll email it to you, as I don't want to break CK's code of ethics! MrBrownstone on 02/15/2007 04:38:54 I leave Google chat on my computer periodically while I'm online. Whenever my friends come online, I may send a note of acknowledgement, but I don't have a lot of long online conversations as my schedule is quite batty. For instance: 12:30 pm Wake up 1:15 pm Actually roll out of bed 1:22 pm Pizza or Chinese food arrives 1:55 pm put on the shades as my eyes might melt in all the sunlight 2:23 pm Arrive at 'work' play for a few hours, get my money back 7:45 pm more food from somewhere 8:30 pm Another card joint, another bad beat 1:15 am Decision: Play all night or head back 1:16 am on my way to Oceans 11 7:55 am back to bed for a good 'nights' sleep Anyone want to chat from 2 til 7 in the morning? Pacific time? swez on 02/15/2007 07:57:40 Hummm, that is a very interesting schedule there B... Can't say mine is much more exciting either, just different is all. I do expect it to change a bit soon though as a new job is pending next week. Am putting the blue jeans off and casual biz attire back on again. It's a sales gig, which I enjoy doing anyway. No more ladders and hoists, climbing on roofs of tall buildings, lugging heavy gear totes around and freezing my butt off in the winter months or sweating up a storm in the summer either. No more crazy work hours and dragging azz back in the door at midnight, from an after hours job, pulling off my grubbies and dragging of to collapse after a a quick clean up. No more loading of the work van with heavy sound gear or SAT/NET dishes, heavy spools of cabling, large boxes of speakers and dish hardware, ladder, ropes, chain fall, lunch pail, tool totes and work buckets of many kinds and then unloading same at the end of a long day. Am turning in the contractor's badge and hitting the roadways selling Commercial/Retail electronic payment hardware, software and service contracts. Have no idea how this will turn out, but will give it my best shot. Yep, leaving the tool totes at home and just carry a brief case, sales info, a note pad, some contracts, a "paranoid" camera and a big cheezy grin. Then, put in about 4-6 hours on appointment calls and maybe a few cold calls, (if desired) and head back to the home office and fill out the paper work and send in the documentation of sales for the day. Repeat similar schedules. (M-F) Ahhhh, no more back breaking, muscle aching and dragging in the door at all hours of the day or night. Who knows, this could be a good gig or a real wash out. But at least it's not dangerous work and should have more time and energy in the evenings to devote to fishing or perhaps a few rounds of golf in the warm weather months too. That would be a very nice change. BTW, am not bragging either. This is a 100% commission gig. One gets paid for what they sell and not how much effort was expended by the hour. Have some "reasonable apprehensions" about this new gig, but a month of selling and the balance in the checking account will tell the story. Hopefully the deposits will be greater than the cost of fuel, food and other expenses. If not, time to reconsider huh? Time will tell if this is a move in the right direction or not. Wish me luck fellas... I think I'm gonna need a ton of it as the MI economy is far from booming. More big layoffs are planned for the Big 3 auto makers and people are leaving the state like robin's do in the fall. Swez :-\ PL on 02/15/2007 14:35:31 Whatever happened to the Loss Prevention Manager gig we were talking about Swez? Glad your gettnig outa the labor section and getting into something less physically demanding. I'm starting to run go to the gym again. Getting in shape again to pursue the Law Enforcement route. Time to start apping for departments and the Academy. I know way to many officers that love their job and since I've got management experience under my belt figured that should help me out. I want to become a Street Cop, work the beat for some years , then try to get into the Narcotics unit then hopefully become a Detective. Officer PL has a nice ring to it. swez on 02/15/2007 16:52:19 "Officer PL has a nice ring to it." It sure does and I hope you'll get that chance. Well, have been in Outside Sales for many years and love the freedom, autonomy and when one is doing well, the paycheck is good too. Working at a desk, stuck in a building or chained to pacing the floor, (Looking for perps) does not have a lot of curb appeal as compared to the outdoor hunting and closing a good sale. It works fine for those who love what they do. But there is nothing worse than being chained to a desk and have little autonomy or say about how the day will be scheduled, for a guy like me. Taking orders from Headquarters all week would drive me buggy. Also, there's little or no company politics with fellow employees and managers to contend with. It's strictly teaching, sharing, advising and getting to "YES" with the clients we meet each day. Everyday is different in venue, people we meet and how the presentation is received. We can stop at store and shop between calls if needed, take a decent lunch in a nice park setting or a sit down restaurant and basically, what one sells, dictates their paycheck for that week. Many sales positions also offer bonus perks and the like. If one does very well or brings in more than our quotas, there's a kicker bonus. This is 100% performance based compensation. After years of a salary and decent bonuses, have figured out that a straight 10% commission check, would have been a millionaire in 10 years and could have retired to other things. Now that I have learned these ropes of selling, I hope to retire in 10 years or less and have a good nestegg to enjoy and pursue other passions and interests. Yes, this may be overly optimistic at this stage of the game, but it's better to aim high and just miss that mark, then to aim low and be miserable. So, at 51, dropping the "Manule Labor" badge is a definite plus. I can honestly say I enjoyed it, learned a good deal and was paid OK... but just not enough steady work to keep that gig. Most days were very long, lots of energy spent and the paycheck did not meet the longer term goals I have in mind. In short, no more sore back problems due to heavy work and not being someones gopher anymore, is a definite plus!!! Swez HAPPY Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
