Has anyone bought or used vista yet? I was wondering if there was a big difference, there was little hype about this version. I just downloaded media player 11, and I am pretty happy with it. I don't have to enter names, artist, album title, or any of that anymore. It rearranged all of my music into a pretty neat system. I downloaded explorer 11 about 3 weeks ago. I really like it alot better than the older version. It only took about 4 hours to get used to the changes. My last computer had a pirated version of windows on it, so I didn't get any of the free upgrades. It is more than worth the money now to buy the OS, just for the upgrades in my opinion. I am thinking about getting an emachine to replace the old compaq desktop. Anyone had any problems with these? They are made by gateway, so I would guess they are pretty good. My laptop is a gateway, and I have been pretty happy with it so far. Here is the one I am looking at: emachine model W3611 17" LCD widescreen monitor 3.0 GHZ Pentium 4 processor 512 MB DDR2 160 GB SATA II hard disk drive (7200 RPM, 8 MB cache) 2 MB L2 cache Intel 945G chipset 800 MHz front-side bus Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 5.1-channel, high-definition audio Amplified Stereo Speakers Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic Wal-Mart price: $598 Replies (3) MrBrownstone on 02/9/2007 06:30:38 I have a 2004 model eMachine T2862. In nearly 3 years, I've had no problems with really anything. Since I'm not a gamer, I don't use 75% of it's capacity. It handled high-speed duties at a mortgage company where I worked, it was my own home theater...I copied 500 discs to it in 196k format mp3...and have 3/4 the hard drive left. I paid $400 (after rebates) including a printer that I've never used. They are as reliable as any make out there, but because they come with an image (instead of installing the OS), there's not much that can be manipulated. Granted, it was never state of the art, unless you have some really intense need, RAM is the only thing I'd need to upgrade....the processor if you are a gamer. However, the bottom of the barrel Best Buy computer is still eons ahead of what most consumers need. If you are a gamer, then you need some beef. I recommend getting a good base, then adding on RAM, etc. as needed. Computers are like a loaf of bread--yesterday's bread is already stale so investing in the 'Top of the Line' model is usually not a wise bet. Here's mine...of what I know: 15" TV monitor (last of it's kind) 2.66 GHZ Celeron D330 processor (not a factor unless gaming) 256 MB DDR2 60 GB hard disk drive 256k L2 cache (obviously old) 533 MHz front-side bus Intel Graphics Extreme 3 Chincy Amplified Stereo Speakers Windows XP Home Edition BBuy price: $400 (2 yrs ago) I personally would not want to be one of the first owners of anything new that Microsoft puts out. Usually, there's more holes in it than a pasta strainer. swez on 02/9/2007 06:41:52 My old g/f has a 6 year old E-machine micro tower. She had to replace the monitor about 1 year ago, a new HDD a few months ago and now the power supply pooped out. I've done all her work and this little machine is just OK - fair. She ran Win XP Home initially. I have since loaded hers up with XP Pro Suites. That's a very good price for all the features noted though. Does it have the Duo Core P-4 chip set? I have not seen the new Vista OS yet. As with all previous MS releases, am sure it has a lot of bugs to work out and hopefully, MS has learned to close all the secuity gaps we have noted with XP's OS systems. Am very happy with XP so far on my Dell Lattitude notebook system. I recently upgraded to WMP 11.0 and have to get used to the new filing system. It's all good though. Very stable OS as far as I can tell. Think I'll stick with XP Pro another year and see how others like Vista. Swez cplkittle on 02/9/2007 07:57:33 I have heard a few things about vista so far.. none good. I was listening to Opie and Anthony (XM's shock jocks or Howard's counterparts) They are both real big into computer gaming, and built their own computers bla bla bla.. Anthony couldn't get vista to load on his machine, kept getting errors, so he shredded it. (video on you tube). Granted he is a little high strung, but I wonder if the shredder might be a good place for it. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
