Hi, All, again. A friend told me about the 18 sounds 6ND410 speakers, are they any good. Here is a small run down of the specs 102 dB SPL 1W / 1m average sensitivity 45 mm (1,77 in) edgewound aluminum voice coil 180 W continuous pink noise power handling Neodymium motor assembly Extremely high sound quality Very shallow profile, 58 mm (2,3 in) The idea i have is to replace my 6x 6" emience with 4 of these. Is it good or not? Thanks All Regards b_bass59 Replies (6) cplkittle on 02/3/2007 00:06:24 That is good sensitivity (102 dB 1w/1m) These are high end speakers designed for concert/stage use from what I can tell. I would assume they have a pretty hefty price tag as well. 180 watts RMS at 8 ohms means that if you buy 4 and wire them up 2 per channel at 4 ohms per channel, your amplifier would have to be 360 watts RMS per channel at 4 ohms. You are looking at a 700x2 or 1400x4 RMS rated amplifier or a 1400x2 or 2800x4 peak power amplifier. A smaller amp would work, but you wouldn't get peak performance from them. Victor on 02/3/2007 09:26:15 I just had a look at their website... these are all high end home / Pro audio speakers.. most of them are rated at 6,8 or 16 ohms... Definitely high quality speakers, but a bit difficult to match with car audio amps which are designed optimally for 4 ohm to 1 ohm operational load. Also the T/S specs are not which would suit most car audio environment... If you can handle these speakers well they would definitely sound great.... swez on 02/3/2007 11:04:57 Agreed, these are definitely geared for mids only and probably designed for stage monitors or midrange arrays. The plots show this 6" version has very good upper mids and good up to 5,000 Hz. They also drop off in efficiency rapidly, below 300 Hz. This is in a free air baffle, so I would expect usable mids, down to about 200 Hz. From what I can tell here, bi-amping with tweeters (Similar efficiency) and a good passive crossover, would be a very interesting option. However, the sub woofer would probably have to be extended to >150 Hz and taming the boomy bass above 100 Hz would also be a big help. What's the price on these? Swez Ash on 02/3/2007 23:10:36 Using drivers meant for other than "car audio" is not a bad thing. You just got to be thorough in the details before diving. From the details of these, I would say "nada". The highest ohm load you could run to a single channel would be an 8, and even then, power output from the amp will have to be correctly calculated to get expected output. If you are looking to get some high quality mid/midbass, checkout P.E.'s selection. Some models will offer a 4 ohm version with slightly different specs. Using a driver with a fairly low vas, Qts between .38- .7 (.4-.6 optimum), a lengthy xmax (4mm minimum), and somewhat of a low Fs (40-50 ish) should net some decent results in the doors. The ultimate control in that type of setup would be all active filtering. Victor on 02/3/2007 23:54:26 Pearless makes some very nice drivers too... b_bass59 on 02/4/2007 21:52:51 The price for these speaker are like $100 per unit.
