Much of this choice depends on your choice of music, space available for the enclosure and amp used.

Even a single strong 12 or 15" sub will deliver excellent bass results. The key is enclosure design parameters and a net 2 ohm speaker load for the amp mentioned in your other post. (Infinity 611A)
