Good day to all. I have an infinity kappa 100.3 10" dvc subwoofer in a sealed box. In a previous thread, i asked for an opinion on changing the box to a ported one, which i have recently decided on. My problem is this, the specs for a ported box require a tube lenght of 9.2 inches: http://manuals.harman.com/INF/CAR/Boxes%20and%20Parameters/1003dvc.pdf Upon checking my car (a ford everest mid size suv) the area behind the third row seat only has a maximum clearance of 11 inches. Now if i'm using a 3/4 mdf board, that would mean that the internal measurement of the box will only be 10.5 inches. This means the space between the rear end of the tube and the wall of the box is barely an inch and a half. Will this be enough space. Thanks for the help. Replies (6) swez on 01/15/2007 19:57:42 There are a few options here: 1. Use a 2.5" ID port, 6.75" long will net ~32 Hz as your tuning point 2. Use a 3" ID port, 9.2" long, but make/use a 90 degree elbow at about 6" into the box (Hopefully you'll have enough space in the box to clear the woofer basket) 3. Mount the port on one side (Just be sure you have at least 3 inches of clearance between the port and any solid objects in the truck) FYI: When porting, the end of the port that goes deep inside the box should be at minimum, 1 port diameter away from any hard surfaces in the box. That's why we use the 90 degree elbow on longer ports. Got all that? Swez rldelrosario on 01/15/2007 21:10:26 Thanks again Swez for the inputs. Will do the math on these options and see which one will do the job. Again thanks. rldelrosario on 01/15/2007 21:38:19 Hi Swez. Re option 3 of your reply, can i go this way - mount the sub on one side (like a bazooka type) and then put the port on the other side. Do the sub and port have to be on the same side? Thanks Ronald L swez on 01/16/2007 08:26:26 The port can be mounted on top, sides, front or back. Your choices are many. Swez rldelrosario on 01/16/2007 20:17:46 OK Got it. Thanks rldelrosario on 01/17/2007 20:01:17 Good day Swez, Finally decided on option 3. Sub in front (of center to the right) and then the port on the left side wall. Without changing the settings on the amp, i noticed right away a deeper and louder bass (as against a tight bass on a sealed box). Will just fine tune it then i'll see if i can set off a car alarm. Thanks a lot. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
