No need for shouting OK... (All Caps is considered shouting here)

Hummm, we need some details before we can guide you through the process. Here are some things to consider as you reseach options:

1. Specific make/model of the vehicle? (Hatchback or sedan)
2. How much is your friend wanting to spend?
3. Does he/she have stock or aftermarket HU? (Radio/CD player)
4. What type of music does your friend like the most?
5. Is this just adding a powered subwoofer or amping full range speakers too?
6. Do you know anything about wiring and general install techniques used in car audio? (If not, use our DIY articles to bone up on the basics)

so you have never built a box, but said you can? have you helped anyone ever before or were you just wanting to look cool and say you could?

I don't think we can give you enough knowledge in a single post to help you "pretend" to know what you are doing. If you are in over your head the first thing you need to do to get out is quit digging.

I agree!

It would be more impressive for you to learn the aspects and how to apply them, than to live throough someone elses creation and fake it.

If you really want to get into installs then you need to learn the basics of loudspeaker designing and the effects of a closed field (auto environment). Not to mention the electricals as well.

In the meantime you could apply what you've learned in "experiments" of your own and use that as a lesson itself!

Love that comment ttocs!!! (Quit digging a deeper hole)

Seems the lad has indeed figured out he is well out of his knowledge zone, in too deep and has since gone AWOL?

Even though now my knowledge is increasing on the daily, I still have to repect my limitations on car audio. Morew people should do the same and realize that car audio isn't just simpleton's stuff, but I would say much closer to rocket science sometimes.

To quote Swez.. Agreed.
Once you 'get on top of it', you still have to read and stay on top of all the new stuff coming out. Luckily, a subscription to a good car audio magazine will keep you keen on the new stuff. ICE amplifiers, MOST integration, and add ons like bluetooth. For the most part, I have been finding out about integration solutions before I encounter a vehicle with that particular need. Integration companies are really on top of their game.

One thing about audio (car/home), designing is just as much an art as it is a science. There are so many ways to get the results one needs that you have to be creative at times. That and everyone's hearing is different enough that the hard fast rules don't always apply.

Then there are so many opposing theories that at times no two are necessarily wrong. It's just how one perceives and implements. As time and tastes change, so do how we use the same technology that remained the same before our time through creativity.

Now, no one wants to discourage anybody! But ya gotta understand there is no jumping aboard. There is a lot for you to learn that is going to take some heavy reading, mathematics, woodworking, mechanical, and experimentation of your own, to be able to make the claims that you want.

A lot of info is here as well as some other sources. Start doing some studying and in the meantime, maybe you and your friend can learn a thing or two and work together.
