Blaupunkt vs JBL

Good day to all.

I'm planning to upgrade the sound system in my Honda Civic 96 VTec car. The head unit is a Pioneer DEH series cd w/ tuner. I'm choosing between these two set-ups:
Blaupunkt
THc 172 component for the front (6")
GTx 693 for the rear (6 x 9)
GTA 475 4ch amp
10" sub in a ported box
or
JBL
GTO 6507c componet for front (6")
GTO 937 for the rear (6 x 9)
GTO75.4 4ch amp
10" sub GTO1002D in a ported box

The amp will power the fronts and the sub, while the rears will be connected directly to the head unit. Both systems will cost me about the same.

Need feedback before i make a final purchase. Thanks.

I personally prefer the JBL setup, but you don't have to go with all the same if you don't want to. Since you are going to amplify the fronts and not the rears, I would carefully choose the rear speakers by efficiency. Try to find a speaker with an efficiency of close to 100dB/1w/1m. It will probably be listed as efficiency 1W/1M - 100dB, This will probably be a 25-35 watt RMS speaker (50-75watts peak) Anything over 50-75 watts RMS will produce little sound when powered only by the HU.

OK. Thanks for the input. Another idea i'm considering is putting component speakers also in the rear (though this will be powered by the H.U.) I'm thinking this way, i also get clear crisp music for the back seat riders. Will this work as well or will it complicate the system.

That is done occasionally, but most component speakers are in the 100-150 watt RMS range, and will need to be ampified. You can wire both right front and right rear speakers to the same channel on the amplifier and the same for the left side. You will lose front to rear fade this way though.
The other option, which I would recommend over the first, is to use two amplifiers. One 4channel for the components and one mono for the sub. This setup is ideal for the 4 component setup.

Once again thanks for the input. I'll probably be leaning on getting the jbl setup, as i've read good reviews for jbl in other sites. Though i know that blaupunkt is original equipment on top brand cars (bmw for instance). Anyway, i'm still in the decision process, but probably on 60-40 chance that i'll go jbl.

I would lean a little more towards the JBL although Blaupunkt does make nice mids. Harmon products tend to have a bit more clarity for their price range.

As for the rears, IMO it is always a good thing to run the same line/series speakers for rear fill so not to offset tonal balance of the total system. Running them off the HU should be perfect with some capacitors to help block out some the lower bass and not to detract from the from the front stage midbass output.

Think of your passenger area like this:

Your system should be setup like a concert. Everyone (the audience) mostly should hear the sound coming off the stage (fronts). This will allow the best imaging. The rears should only help add a little bit of ambience to help fill the cabin.

If the sound is focused in the back for the rear seaters it will degrade the little bit of imaging that they do get and might mess up yours as well. Therefore, I don't think sensitivity and output is so important for any rear setup. As long as there is enough wattage to keep them from distorting during the most of the volume range.

If a amp setup is used like mentioned above, then the rears can be fine tuned to where distortion is minimum and proper frequency and attenuation is right where you want it.

Thanks for the inputs. I guess i'll be going for the jbl setup. I agree about the front staging concept. The idea of putting components for the rear was to give the back seat riders a clear but subtle sound (more like front staging but with a little rear output so as not to overwhelm the front seat riders). You know, when you're driving and talking to your passengers without the hassle of competing with the music. Probably i'll forego this idea initially (components for the rear) until i have enough funds for the two amp setup. Agains thanks.
