heres one for those with less than adequate funds ... you can buy quilters polyester batting for sound dampning material, sure its not the top of the line but it does reduce a lot of road noise without the hefty price, just dont let your freinds see you buying the stuff or they will think somethings off. that and a lil contact spray cement and you will notice a diference, and your wallet wont hurt too bad either. works great in doors and in back panels of trucks but i suppose it would work pretty much anwhere you can conceal it.IDEA

I think that would work well anywhere but in the doors. It would be hard to keep it from getting clogged in the window mechanics.
I have noticed while working on Audis and Mercedes that there are layers of cloth mat everywhere. Under the center console, behind the dash, under the back seats. I am sure this is for dampening road noise, so this would probably work pretty well.

Right... one can use old pieces of carpeting too. The foam back type indoor/outdoor will work well enough and can take moisture too. (Door panels) It's not too bulky or thick and 3M spray adhesive should be plenty good to keep it in place.

TECH TIP: This is often rubberized or neoprene based backing. Do not use jute back carpets in windows or areas where water is a problem. Jute is also hard to make it stick on vertical surfaces.

Be on the look out for stuff like this on trash night and you can get it for free. However, make sure it's fairly clean and not too grubby. A good vacuuming should do or perhaps hit it with a power washer at the car wash and allow to dry before using.

Carpet shops on trash day can be a treasure hunt for this stuff. They usually have huge "scraps" of brand new carpet and pad, from pre-cutting for rooms. I carpeted my whole garage apartment with the stuff for free. Maybe it's time to recarpet the hoopty, all that old window sealant lookin ugly lately. LoL. As for sound isulation, I may have to look into this.

Carpet padding works well for sub box dampening too. Have experimented with many different materials and have found several cheap/free alternatives that do just fine.
