Ok guys, I know I have been posting a lot these fast few weeks because you guys give great advice. GRIN I've been in the process of helping my brother set up a system. He has a 1991 300zx. I have put my amp with a sub in my brothers car, and it was veryyyy quiety( just enough to feel the vibrations). Not sure what the problem is, or if the wires set up by the previous car owner are correct or not. Also, the red wire from the car bat. to the back has a concertor called the, "Monster Cable". It sort of makes a wire smaller, and able to go into am amp..Not sure what it is, never had it before in previous cars. FROWN One more thing, how does the back of the HU look? I checked, everything seemed to be connected too..Not sure! FROWN. Here are some pictures to justify. Thanks, (if more pictures help, ask) Steve COFFEE (i tried making the pictures post in here, but it wont show) Bat. Fuse+Wiring (1) http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a171/lilschtive/100_9920.jpg Bat. It looks like it goes from one 4ga input to 4 x 8ga outputs. Everything looks fine other than that.. I like the body kit also. Double check the settings in the radio. If you are connected to the rear outputs, disable the HPF, or designate the rear as the sub outputs.. What kind of radio is it? Pioneer? lilschtive on 12/29/2006 20:45:05 Yes its pioneer. There are 4 speakers total in the car. 2 door, and 2 back. I was thinking of connecting the front speakers with the rear speakers, so it will run as "front" on the HU. Then use the "rear" to put the subs. Its a tight car, and I'm not sure if thats the way to go. "Double check the settings in the radio. If you are connected to the rear outputs, disable the HPF, or designate the rear as the sub outputs." -^^Heh, i dont really understand that car lingo yet that well. I can put the amp in subwoofers in fine, then i just get stuck when little/no music comes out of the subwoofers. In other words, I put more distribution in the rear, but its putting more on the rear speakers, not the subs. And when i put more on the front, it will put more on only the front speakers. How can i get my HU to recognize that i have subwoofers? And how can i set it to put more on all 4 speakers, and less on the subs, or the opposite? Do you get what i mean? (kind of hard to word) Thanks Steve cplkittle on 12/29/2006 20:53:00 what is the radio model number lilschtive on 12/29/2006 20:59:13 http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/product/details/0,,2076_310069880_37859,00.html DEH-P440 cplkittle on 12/29/2006 21:04:29 Do you know how to get into the audio features? sub level low pass filter (LPF) is the loud on is the eq set up for powerful or superbass lilschtive on 12/29/2006 21:31:18 Dont know sub level Dont know LPF The loud is on Its set for powerful currently (without subs in yet) cplkittle on 12/29/2006 21:37:01 scroll through the audio settings and try to find the sub gain it should say sub + a number if you run across something that says LPF, set that at 60 or 80 Hz scroll through the owner's manual, or download one off the internet. Read through it.. all of it. even though it isn't your CD player, you will learn alot of things that carry over into other HUs. lilschtive on 12/29/2006 21:37:54 I looked at the manuel, and I don't think it will be hard to put the subwofoers in. It says it has a subwoofer input mode, where it will transfer music to both the front and the subwoofer. lilschtive on 12/29/2006 21:39:57 it says it has 50, 80 or 125 Hz..Which do i choose? What is LPF mean? cplkittle on 12/29/2006 21:40:53 I install entire systems all the time, and there will be very little or no bass until the radio is properly adjusted. I am pretty sure this is an easy fix for you. Always adjust the bass with the trunk / hatch closed. If it is open, you only hear 25% of the bass. lilschtive on 12/29/2006 21:43:58 I think it will be. I would go outside right now and install my system to see if it works, but its it bit nippy and dark. I'll dip into it tomorrow. Thanks for that hint. But what is the true definition of LPF? And what is its purpose? Thanks, Steve cplkittle on 12/29/2006 21:56:41 LFP stands for Low Pass Filter it is a filter that allows frequencies Lower than the Filter setting to Pass through. basically it filters out the highs from the sub amplifier. This is used to prevent the amplifier from wasting power on frequencies that the sub can't play, and even if the sub could play some of these, they sound nasty lilschtive on 12/29/2006 21:59:07 i have that and High pass filter on my current amp..i have them both set preety high..is that right? cplkittle on 12/29/2006 22:07:09 what kind of amp, and what are you using it for? ttocs on 12/30/2006 09:50:43 looks like your rca's are cut? also be sure to insulate the remote wire on the back of the deck, if that grounds out you will blow a fuse if you are luck, blow something else if you don't. lilschtive on 12/30/2006 12:40:47 Which color is the RCA? Also, i looked at the online manuel, and it tells you where to go to find the subwoofer output.. I did that on mine for a good 20 mintues, and found nothing about subwoofers on my HU installed in my car..ahh! EDIT: Whoops...i think the subwoofer has to be installed for it to show it..heh... lilschtive on 12/30/2006 20:32:02 Ugh...Now im getting frustrated.. I hook up all the wires to the amp correctly...I checked all the fuses and when i turn on the car, the amp isnt even showing power. If i get the amp to turn on, maybe the HU will register there is a subwoofer. My head unit manuel says it has a subwoofer mode, but i have checked over and over and over and yet i see nothing. Why is my amp not getting power even though everything seems to be hooked up! Thanks Steve swez on 12/30/2006 22:39:08 Are you sure you're getting power to the amp and also a remote turn on signal from the HU? This is where a Digital Multimeter come in handy. Do you have one of these now? Tech Tip: You can jun a temporary jumper from the amps' main power wire lug to the REMote lug. If the amp turns on now, you know the REMote from HU is not working. Just remove the HU REM wire while doing this test. Warning: When installing this temporary jumper, it's a good idea to remove the fuse from your main power line or pull the NEG terminal off the battery. This prevents accidential shorts that can damage the amp or HU. Good luck Steve, Swez lilschtive on 12/31/2006 12:18:49 "Are you sure you're getting power to the amp and also a remote turn on signal from the HU?" Thats exactly what im not getting ttocs on 12/31/2006 13:33:05 the manual is saying to plug it into the RCA(red and white and round) sub output on the back of the deck. If your deck does not have one then use the regular rca output. The rca cable is the black cable with the red and white ends. This is the cable that send the audio signal to your amp, from you deck to your amp. You deck will not "register" an amp or sub............ lilschtive on 12/31/2006 13:35:27 The RCA is connected on both ends of the amp and the deck already. Since a deck does not register that there is no amp or sub, how come I can't find the subwoofer output? (I'm thinking once I get power to my amp, the HU will know, but i guess not?) ttocs on 12/31/2006 15:49:44 no radio will "recognize" a sub. It plays music, doesn't do any hand shakes or recognize any particular speakre hooked up to it. If the amp is not powering up we need to look at the power connections. If you have a voltmeter or test light this is the time to pull it out, if you do not have one this is a good time to find someone that does have one or go get one. A voltmeter or test light can be found for less then $10 at an autoparts store and nobody should be with out one if they work on thier own car or stereo. We need to check for power at the amp. Test between the ground connection and the +12v constant for 12v. If that is good then turn on the radio and test between the ground at the amp, and the remote turn going to it, again for 12v. If you have 0v at either of these places your amp will not turn on. Try switching the remote wire behind the radio, to a +12v connection(either the yellow or red(with the key on) behind the radio). by putting +12v on the remote, and having power on the constant the amp should turn on. This is not a perminant solution, just to test but if needed you can keep it wired to the +12v switched wire(red) and the amp will turn on and off with the key, not th radio. In your last pick of the HU you can see that there is some bare copper wire showing on the blue remote turn wire.. Bet ya $20 t that you blew the remote turn on output since I do not see a fuse on that wire. Pioneer radio's I think will shut down the remote wire if it detects it is grounded. Also looking at the back fo the radio I see 3 sets of rca input/outputs. On of those could be the input from a cd changer. try hooking the rca up to the one labelled "front".
