yes its done really NOOB.
but i did it all with only a jigsaw.
so its not THAT bad!
its about 1.8cuft per chamber at 33htz
pair of FUBR 10s. it will eventually be converted for Kappa 12s
the bass clef was the customers idea.
questions? comments? ideas? advice?

Only a jigsaw! Boy, do I remember those days. I like the flaming clef logo. Pretty neat.

front looks good, what about the sides and back?

Victor on 12/21/2006 13:55:19
looking at the box, and the size ratio of the ports to the box, i can already hear some port noise......what size are those ports?????

Ash on 12/21/2006 14:15:33
Dang Vic you sure have good ears...

Now that you have built your first one and see how tedious it could be without the proper tools, I take it that will be your next investment. A good set of power tools is an installer's best friend as time consumption can be your worst enemy.

newB on 12/21/2006 17:45:14
yes new tools are definately in order.
and they are 2inch ports. 2 per chamber 7.6inches long
i filed them down good and even ran a blow-drier through it to see if they made any noise and it was good.
so for now i just have my fingers crossed!

PS the jig was actually broke. the platform that hold the blade at 90* wasnt on so it was all free-hand.
muhco uber hard

Daaannng! I'd say you had a task on your hands.

Dont know if the blow drier test will be enough velocity, but I commend you for trying. No one expects you to jump out of the box with the know-how. All things will come in time. Meanwhile, you know we are here to help if you need.

So let us know how it sounds, okay?

newB on 12/21/2006 20:21:27
of course.
im cutting the terminal holes and installing it all tomorrow.
its odd because the car (a 93 POS mercury tracer) and owner is my friend.
but this is the first complete system ive done. the HU in my car and box in my car were installed with my AND a friend. now its all me. and im pretty satisfied with what ive accomplished. i cant wait to hear how it sounds either!

Thats a sick box man. I bet cutting the clef mark was definetely tough. congrats on a gob well done with ghetto tools!!!

swez on 12/21/2006 20:44:16
You did pretty darn good with the worst possible tool in hand. But a belt sander can clean up rough edges pretty well too. Yes, a file works too, but lots of labor and time to get there as well.

Now, let's get a report on how it sounds when the subs are installed ect.

I've always said that I'd only need half the tools it takes me to build a box if I could cut a straight line.

Nice job. NewB.
I've seen stereo shops do worse, so you are above par in my book.
How much time do you have in it so far?

newB on 12/21/2006 21:32:15
hhhmmm.... couple hours in the afternoon for a couple days...
id say ~16
paint took a good lil amout of time.
im very happy with it considering my first box.
at some points i worried i bit off more than i could chew going ported.
but i handled it nicely

swez on 12/21/2006 22:47:10
Yes, you did a remarkable job with the tools used frankly!

Am I that 'stingy' with comments and complimenting others work here? I hope not... but if I am, tell me so I can ammend my ways.

Just been a very tough week here at the Swez house and I'll just leave it at that.

Swez ;-)

newB on 12/22/2006 02:34:32
and how does that make you feel?
frustrated?
aggravated?
let your feelings go........
jk.
but really- sorry about that.
i hope everything works out

oh and to "ShootuhMcBustaCap"
"I bet cutting the clef mark was definetely tough"
it was very time consuming but not exactly difficult.
just stencel work. covered the center with masking tape. drew the clef and flames. cut the flames. sprayed. covered the flames cut the clef. sprayed. TADA!!! but DEFINATELY time consuming.

how well does the box seal up? I tried my first time with a hand held circular saw and it didn't look so perty..........

ShootuhMcBustaCap on 12/22/2006 15:52:29
Smooth man. Still something I wouldnt be to hot on doing myself, But it looks great.

newB on 12/22/2006 20:14:56
alright!
its in and thump'n.
it sounds real nice.
real low (especially for 10s)
and has decent range.
the highs were defeninately lacking (compared to sealed)
but it was REAL nice. im so happy to see it all come together!
it was a good feeling seeing his side-rear windows shaking...
i am generally impressed with the whole thing!
very good day.
(vid comming soon)

it got put to the test today.
the guy i built the box for and i were at a friends party and he had his BMW X5 out with its (stock) system up.
i told him to back his ghetto tracer up and pop the trunk.
it was GREAT. it gathered a small crowd and everybody was into it.
i couldnt get the smile off my face.
