if i install like 2-0guage wire would i have to upgrade all my electrical things or would a more powerful battery do just fine?? I dont really care if my lights dim a little but i just dont want my car to die when im sitting at a light bumpin. can i just get a new wire and that would work? What amp would you recommend if i got 2 MTX 12" 7500 series subs? I dont trust that chart because i thought the ohms had to match up to the recommended power. Can u leave a cap sitting for a couple months with car battery dead? I broke my ankle and havent been driving my car and last time i checked my car the battery was dead. Will it wreck the cap? Replies (7) ShootuhMcBustaCap on 12/16/2006 15:14:02 You won't have to upgrade anything else, bigger wire just means more current can flow to your electronics. And it's sexier too. I'm not going to reccomend an amp here, as there is just too many good choices in this power range, many with benifits and drawbacks that others don't have. What kind of specific features are you looking for here? Yor cap should be fine, just charge 'er up a spell. My bro killed his ride's battery, and his Cap charged right back up. Sorry to hear about your ankle by the way, that always sucks breaking limbs. Any more questions? swez on 12/16/2006 15:38:40 Sorry to hear about your ankle... that's gotta smart and the wrong time of year to be hopping along in a cast. No, a dead BAT will eventually drain the Cap of all stored energy and will not harm it. That TC8100 is the right choice for a pair of 7512-04's. Here, you're on the right track about wiring needs too. A #2 gage kit will do a good job and a fresh battery when you are ready for the install. Swez cplkittle on 12/16/2006 16:05:25 The origional sub you asked about was the 7512 There are two versions the 7512-04 and the 7512-44. The 04 is a single voice coil sub at 4 ohms, the second is a dual 4ohm voice coil sub. If you are using the 7512-04, the TA8502 (Recommended from the link). According to the information on the amplifier: http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products/amplifiers/thunder8502.cfm This amp can handle a 2 ohm load bridged. This will give you 750watts RMS power (375 each) which is close enough to the sub's highest end of RMS recommended power (400 each). http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products/subwoofers/thunder7500.cfm If you use the 7512-44 (dual 4ohm subs) It says you can use the same amplifier, but the output would only be 250watts RMS per sub. Still not a bad match. The power rating on the subs says 175-400watts RMS, which means anything within that range is fine. They recommend wiring the subs in series, then parallel to the amp at a 4 ohm load. If you want a different amplifier and you are using the 7512-04 subs I would look for an amp with an RMS rating of 600-800watts at 2 ohms. This amp will probably be advertised as a 1500 or 1600watt amp 2ohm stable. If you are using the 7512-44 subs, I would look for an amplifier that is also 600-800watts RMS at 1ohm. This also will be advertised at 1500-1600watts, But this one needs to be 1ohm stable. Once you choose your amplifier, you need to decide what the maximum current draw of the amplifier will be. You can do this by simply adding up the fuses on the amplifier. The TA8502 amplifier has 3 x 40amp fuses (120amps total). Once you figure this out, you can use this chart to calculate wire gauge: http://www.radiolocman.com/electrical-engineering/circuit-cache.html?di=18899 Scroll down to the section entitled Car audio cable recommendations It will give you recommended wire size for total amperage, and takes the length of wire into consideration. In your case, I would choose 2 gauge (good for up to 105-125amps of current draw up to 16 feet) In a Chevy Corsica you should only need around 14 feet. This chart is very overrated, so these wire sizes will work with no question. Honestly you can use 4 gauge for 120amps. Porkee113 on 12/16/2006 17:06:10 ok cool i think i already have 4 gauge installed. thnx for all the answers to my questions thanks alot. once christmas comes by ill hopefull have the subs and amp i want and ill come back here for questions about wiring it all up. right now i have 2 12" MTX road thunders in 6 speakers 4 hooked up to an amp and the subs are hooked up to an amp too Porkee113 on 12/16/2006 19:44:21 are the amps you recommending for 1 sub or both subs? swez on 12/16/2006 20:18:47 http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products/amplifiers/TC8001.cfm This amp is Class D and rated at 400 watts RMS per sub. It has the power to run a pair of 7512-04's sub to their capacity. If you wanted a pair of 4+4 DVC (7512-44's), the TA8502 is your best fit as it is 1 ohm stable and delivers +350 watts RMS per sub. Either way, only one amp is needed for 2 subs. Swez Porkee113 on 12/16/2006 20:32:08 ok thanks for the help, Cory Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
