help-stock sub doesn't work with aftermarket stereo?

I have a 1994 Ford Explorer, Eddie Bauer edition. The previous owner had an aftermarket Alpine stereo installed with a cd changer. From other forums I've read, the stock subwoofer doesn't work with aftermarket stereos unless you buy a special wiring kit or something else... I couldn't find that information again, so I was wondering if you could tell me how to get my stock sub to work with my aftermarket stereo.

Also, how do I get the aftermarket stereo out of the dash to get to the wiring? It appears to be professionally done so I can't find a way to pull it out.

Thanks.

I can't remember the dash on the 94 to know if it is the older style, or the really old style. If you can see 4 holes on the side of the deck, get a ford radio removal key set from a local auto parts store. All you need to do is put the keys in, gently pry out and then pull the radio out. Takes 2 secs. If you cannot see the holes you will need to remove the 2 9/32"(7mm) screws that hold the ashtray in, and then the entire dash(from the gauges surround to the radio) will pull off. Now you can pull the radio out the same as described before.

You can make the sub work by hooknig up the amp turn on wire behind the radio. If your deck has sub outs, and you want to use them for the factorys sub there is one more piece you would need.

Thanks. I'll try it once I'm done taking finals.

If it is the Alpine radio you are trying to remove, you need to remove the trim piece around the faceplate. On the left and right side there are funky little tabs that you have to push to the center of the catch to pull the radio out. You will see what I am talking about when you take the faceplate and trim piece off.

I looked at the stereo and was able to pull it out. I'm baffled by why it doesn't work. Short of ripping off the back passenger side of the explorer to axcess the amp, I don't know what to do.

The wiring is...odd, in my opinion. Nothing like my previous car at least (It was a GM vehicle...whereas this is Ford).

There's RCA cables labeled for the front and rear... but there's only one left and right output for front, and same for the rear... yet you unplug one RCA cable, and only one speaker goes out rather than two. It's also wired in through the normal speaker wires... but when I disconnected that, absolutely nothing happens.
The RCA cables appear to go back to the amp, but I can't access it. Is it possible that the RCA cables go back to the amp/sub, and from there split to the rear speakers (in the doors)? I can see what appears to be cut [stock] speaker wires near the amp, but again... can't access it.

Any ideas?

Oh, and there is a blue wire connected to the stereo already (and I don't have a power antenna)... so that isn't the issue, I don't believe.
