What is the purpose of bass blockers ? Replies (2) ShootuhMcBustaCap on 12/12/2006 18:38:30 Bass Blockers are passive crossovers for keeping deep bass signals out of smaller speakers. (6X9, Tweeters, Ect.) By doing this, soundwaves the smaller speakers can't produce are blocked, so they can make a cleaner, less distorted sound. Passive crossovers are ok for power coming for head units, but most crossover outside of componet sets offer weak filtering and block out frequencies that have already been amplified, wasting power. Any more questions? Shootuh Ash on 12/12/2006 18:41:28 To do exactly what they say, at least to some degree that is. They are nothing more than a passive crossover (a capacitor of a chosen value to block out frequencies below that point). They are decent for low power applications such as HU power, but that is about it as they are only 1st order (-6db slope). A shallow slope that will still allow quite a bit of bleed thru and too much at higher power levels. Usually, when running them, it is best to choose a frequency sometimes 2- 3 times higher than actually needed to insure the speaker driver is protected. You can use better quality caps or even create steeper slope (12db octave) passive crossovers by adding the proper coil in the circuit if you don't mind soldering. Check out www.partsexpress.com as they have a large and somewhat inexpensive assortment. They also have a great tutorial with a example chart. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
