Considering buying an ED Amp at the same time that I purchase my eDead to save money and get free shipping. Currently I only have one pair of Alpine Type-R 6.5 (70WRms) separates. I've been reading that most people going for SQ do not run rear speakers, so this would eliminate the need for a 4 ch. (Nine.4) amp. I've read before that feeding too much power to a set of speakers is not good for them in the long-run. So, considering that the Nine.2 is 30WRms more than the Alpine's call for, would any of you advise against this? Which would you recommend for my application? Nine.2 100x2 @ 4o Nine.4 65x4 or 150x2 @ 4o Product links: http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/products/product.php?model=SPR-17LS http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=46 http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=45 Replies (4) ttocs on 12/12/2006 13:02:55 you will be fine as long as you keep the signal clean. I think it is easier to blow speakers with not enough power(sending the signal into clipping) then it is with too much. Ash on 12/12/2006 18:58:13 One main thing to look out for when using more than the recommended power is over excursion. Though it still may play clean, it is possible to over excurse the speaker when driving the same lower frequencies at louder volumes. Crossover settings will have to be carefully tuned to keep the coil from crashing into the backplate. When this happens, it can be just as catastrophic as distortion. swez on 12/12/2006 21:25:49 Agreed, a few extra clean watts to your speakers in not a problem as long as you watch how much low frequency information they get. Most 6.5's can handle 60-80 Hz., and up well enough, but with the extra power available, pay close attention to the woofers, so they don't get over worked. Swez ttocs on 12/13/2006 10:59:42 you can always keep the gain down on the amp as well........ Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
